I know that during our Sat game against Baylor, it looked to me like we were taking some terrible cuts at some bad pitches.
When ESPN interviewed Mike in-game, he said they're selling out to try to hit the outside pitch, because the ump obviously isn't going to call that a strike.
I guess it seemed to work Saturday. So what do I know? LOL
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think that Mike said that Stearns was hitting her spots on the outside and getting strike calls on the curves that she was running inside, so that was why they had to sell out on one side or the other. It doesn't make sense for him to say that we are going to sell out for outside pitches that are not being called strikes. I do agree that Sam seemed to choose the outside in the second game on Sunday, and it did get her a base hit and the homer. It also helped with her patience, which was the point of my original post.
Back to a comment about the games, I couldn't help but think after the first game that they poked the hornets nest and were about to run into a buzz saw.
Yea, it is important to be right when your rightness results in a victory.
By the way? Everyone is giving Stearns her just due, but Jordan allowed two single run games in fourteen innings, that is pretty special.
You are correct, she threw only 6 innings on Sunday night in that 6 inning mercy rule game, so she gave up 2 single runs in 13 innings of work.
Not to mention Christina Hamilton, taking a lot of pressure off of Jordan by pitching a gem vs Weber State. This allowed Jordan to be able to pitch both of those games vs Baylor.
