I got the vibe from the selection show that he didn't really believe his team could come in here and win this weekend.
almost like he was disappointed they got sent here. "We'll give them a run for their money" is what Florida A&M basketball says before Kentucky scores the first 30 points on them.
It was a wierd vibe.
And Friday night he was _____ing about the field in-game on ESPN. I was just thinking, "We have to play till 1am, and Mike would never let that be an excuse. You play the hand you're dealt."
Man, we're so blessed here.
This interview occurred during the game not after the game. It really did not sound like he was throwing his player under the bus to me. He said that the whole thing was because of a miscommunication. He (supposedly) told the player to stay at 3rd, but there was a miscommunication and she thought he wanted her to go for home. It sounded like a lame excuse, but it did not sound like he was throwing the player under the bus. (or at least that is the way I heard it)
That occurred during the game. Season was not over then.
IMO he was not throwing her unde the bus but trying to express a failure to communicate being in the Lamson crucible. Earlier in the first game his team was used to big loud venues.
IMO he was talking out of both sides of his mouth about Lamson being intimidating. Clearly at moments it can be.
Makes sense. Probably, the first instance was wishful thinking ("Oh, this is nothing. We're in the mighty Big XII with raucus crowds every night!") and the second was reality setting in.
He hesitated in that first comment during game 1. Like he started to say, "this environment is nothing. We play in this all the time. This crowd doesn't bother us at all" and wisely thought better of it. I noticed it at the time and thought it was kind of funny. He was like, Oh... better not say it like that.
Didn't hear the second one. I'm sure you're right.
