Wish we could tell from the projections what folks think our chances are if we don't win the tournament.
Everyone projects us to win it, which gets us in automatically.
What do our chances look like without the auto bid?
Depends on the last 15 games and the conference tournament. Eight of our last 15 games (including tonight) are against opponents with a sub-200 RPI. Winning a big majority of our games is, in my opinion, critical.
I think 12-3 would put us in pretty good shape. Brian?

In looking at the RPI chart I noticed that "big time" baseball teams (just like football) do not play any games away from home unless they have to. Texas A & M has played only 6 road games and 32 home games. Our friends to the east have only played 10 road games and 28 home games. On the other hand we have played 18 road games and 20 home games.
I know there is a bonus for winning road games but it seems like the teams that are not afraid to travel should be rewarded.
Don't be so hard on LSU. They have played two road games against non-conference foes this season. That is a 100% improvement over some past seasons. Making progress. :-)
And the teams that choose to travel are amply rewarded. With the way the RPI now works, you are more than rewarded for going on the road and it is to the benefit of teams that do. I strongly feel that the RPI is too strongly weighted against home games and in favor of road games. The Cajuns should have scheduled even more road games. Their WP contribution at home is a mere .50000 and is damaging their RPI. Meanwhile, their WP contribution from road games is a salty .74479! This is despite the fact that the Cajuns have a better home record (13-7) than road record (11-7). If the Cajuns Road WP represented their actual WP (all road games winning at an 11-7 clip … winning 11 of every 18 games), the Cajuns would have the #9 RPI ranking in the country, pushing hard for the #8 spot.
The Cajuns should schedule more games on the road … and in particular, more games on the road vs. weaker opponents that are likely to have decent winning percentages, regardless of where their RPI rank is likely to be. And … eliminate the games vs. UNO until they get their grounding. It is bad enough that the Cajuns' RPI must stomach Appalachian State.

I asked Tony on a radio call in if the realigned Sun Belt Conference would alter how he schedules going forward. He was very quick to reply "Yes". Perhaps they will do what you have pointed out. It appears the "realignment gods" have been much kinder to softball than baseball here.
