University named 2014 Tree Campus USA

The University of Louisiana has retained its designation as a Tree Campus USA.

Tree Campus USA honors colleges and universities, and their leaders, for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

To earn the 2014 Tree Campus USA title, UL met the five core standards for effective campus forest management:

• a tree advisory committee;


• a campus tree-care plan;


• dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program;


• an Arbor Day observance; and


• a student service-learning project.

The announcement was made recently by Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. “By earning Tree Campus USA recognition, your campus has shown its commitment to protecting and preserving its valuable tree resources and will reap their benefits for generations of students to come,” he wrote in a letter to UL President Dr. Joseph Savoie.

Tree campus USA is a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota.

On a related note, have some property that has a couple of oak trees that are a hundred years old or so, one that is in the 300 hundred range. They need some TLC, they were trimmed a while back, but been kicking around the idea of trying to spruce them up.

Trying to convince my wife to build their in a couple years (problem is it's only a stone's throw from momma), and I think if she saw how beautiful these tress make the property she would change her mind. Anybody on this board know of someone who may be able to help in this arena?

I have used Jim on multiple occasions. Maybe not the cheapest but the by far the best. Have also recommended him to others, and all have come away agreed.

I had 4 water oaks in my yard, had to cut one down recently and trim the others. I used Possum's. Their prices were pretty good and they made quick work of everything. The clean up crew even cut some of the large branches into 18"ish long sections so I could split and keep as firewood. I was satisfied.
