Auburn is basically the equivalent of TAMU in the SEC. Football school with not much basketball success. Could be the exact thing for him. Unless his "problems" ruined his chances in that league. Also ArKansas may open. He was a name there before UK.

Finally, the rumor mill I heard was Mike Davis to Arkansas and a rumor of Billy Kennedy to UAB.

When you get here, I'll take you out for a steak at Ruth Chris and we'll have a cold one together. Oh, Brad can come too. _
You must have heard how much I LOVE STEAK. I will remember this, just ask Zee (Dreamland BBQ Ribs). Take Care my friend.

I think it would be great if Billy Gillispie came here, but I would be completely shocked if he did. Bob Huggins had a top notch program at Cincinnati and ran into similar trouble. Where did he end up?? Kansas State and now is at West Virginia. I just don't see a coach who has had as much success on a high level accepting the job at UL. Am i saying we shouldn't try to lure him in? No, because UL has great facilities and a potential to be a good program. I just think he will make his "come-back" in a bigger program.

There are definitely others. Mike Jarvis had a lot of success at St. John's, Eddie Sutton took over for Jesse Evans at San Francisco and the man is a legend. I love to think big when talking about a coaching hire but the problem is getting a big name for the amount of money we are going to pay.

True, money can buy time and change place.

    The wild card is opportunity.

Turbine, in the truest sense, you are correct. However, How does opportunity spring the ability to pay someone what a budget will not allow? Also, how are the proposed hiring freeze's going to affect athletics? When the ability to pay coaches comes substantially from a budget that is affected daily by less than favorable LA politics, how does opportunity meet action?

I doubt the hiring freeze will affect replacing departed personnel, unless the department they departed from went with them.

I know of a department at UL that did lose a person and they did not get replaced because of the hiring freeze.

My poor wife fights this every day within her program in the state. You lose direct care nurses and have to get approval from the DOA to replace them.

And you may very well be right but my concern is that all hires have to be approved by the state board of regents. If we come to terms with a good, qualified coach we still have to hope that this is approved. This is the direct and immediate problem we will run into with the football coach if/when Bustle is gone because the state only allows us to pay up to 225k out of those budgeted finances to a coaching salary with the rest coming from private funds AND it must be approved. There is nothing that guarantees us any approval in a recession. There is a good chance that any candidate will want and receive much more than Lee is currently getting and that is of concern.
