Thread: Future head basketball coach should/will be

Tim Floyd will be the new head coach at N.O. so why wold he take a huge paycut and come to UL?

Butch is past his time as a HC.

Neither would want to inherit the mess we have here.

Boyd needs to start at Lafayette Middle and work his way up.

I wouldn't touch the Tim Floyd nightmare with a ten foot poll.

But Butch Pierre, Bobby Champagne and Tim Floyd are quality, experienced coaches in college basketball. Two of them are long time assistants at solid programs (Bobby is now coaching at University of North Alabama, but has solid assistant experience in D-1) and the third has been successfull whereever he has been. My only issue with Floyd is baggage he comes with.

PS: I would like to add Marty Fletcher and Jesse Evans to the list.......Just kidding.......For those interested Marty is now the Men's Basketball Analyst; Studio Analyst for the MWC. Previously he had been the director of officials for the MWC, as well as coach at Denver and the men's and women's coach at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, at least Marty stayed in basketball, whatever happened to Jesse after he was let go from San Fransisco? _
Jesse Evans took a leave of absence from his team in the middle of the season a couple of years ago with no explanation to his employers as to why and how long he'd be gone. They finally fired him, hired a legend in Eddie Sutton and then Evans promptly sued the school for breach of contract.. The guy can get things done but he sure does carry some baggage.

Byron Starks left the Cajun Program after a year as an assistant due to the time and travel constraints that it put on his family and I don't think Byron liked that lifestyle from what I'm told. That's respectable but it obviously won't work out for him on the college level.

About two weeks ago, I defended the opportunity to hire him if it were to ever come available even though we all know the chances were slim to none. Now,given the mess he's created, I agree with you. I wouldn't go near him with someone else's pole. Not to mention that if some of these sanctions are handed down by the NCAA in addition to what USC has imposed, his college coaching career may be over anyway.

Brad, I can say this with total confidence and honesty.

I would hire you before I would hire Tim Floyd.

For what it's worth, I think Brad has grown up quite a bit in the last year. The more I watch this horrific team (with a lot of INDIVIDUAL TALENT), the more I think we NEED someone with some spunk and attitude to bring a CULTURE shock to the program. We are the LAUGHING STOCK of the league, and as little six years ago, we were one of the elite, year in and year out. (And Brad was a part of that.) Hard to believe I am saying this, but I would be excited to see what Boyd can do. I mean, I would be a little worried about professionalism, he can kick all the chairs he wants and it would STILL be better than what we are seeing now. If I had a choice, I would give him an interim tag on a short leash starting with tomorrow's game, and see what he can do with the existing talent, under pressure and short timeframe.

I have to believe that there are a lot of coaches that could infuse some spunk and attitude into this program but most would have more experience and have proved themselves beyond an AAU level.

I don't know what the problem is........people on this board are not going to decide who the next coach is anyway. Brad can submit his name for the job, get an interview, and if he has the right stuff.............then he's the man. And if he becomes "the man", I really can't wait to see what happens next!

Seems to me the new head coach gets to pick his staff, so depending on who that new head coach is, you can decide whether or not to apply as an assistant and if selected, then you are on your way.
