There is nothing that guarantees us any approval in a recession. There is a good chance that any candidate will want and receive much more than Lee is currently getting and that is of concern. _

I will tell you with a probability of 100% that the BOR will not shoot down a hire for a HC in any sport. That would be an action that would unite ALL the ULS schools alumni against the BOR and their political bosses in BR.

It's not the hire, but rather the amount for which that candidate would be paid. If Bustle and Lee were replaced in the immediate future, would the BOR approve significant raises for the new hires in a time that so much is being trimmed from the budget? I guess the question is, what are the chances they would not approve that type of scenario which is very possible.

Yes, they would approve the hire, even if we paid $5,000,000/year [NOT that we would pay anything close to even 20% of that]. Reason being that the STATE will still only be out $225K. The rest is a problem only for boosters..

Knock on "The Kid" is that he sued UK. Yeah, To get his money which was LEGALLY OWED to him. He can still coach and he will get hired. Does he have issues ? Yes always did, but is a good Coach.

UK wanted "The Kid" to be out speaking everynight. ''The Kid" would be willing to speak everynight at the Outback til it closed to any UK fan who wanted to stay with him and listen. I saw it first hand at Texas A & M. He never wanted all that other stuff. Who was at fault there ? Coach and Recruit. That is why he went to UK (NOT TO BE THE FUND RAISER). I get the whole Coach has to speak deal too, just not every night when you were not told upfront. Let the Coaches Coach.

Billy will Coach again and WIN. That's what he does. His way. If you don't like his style DON'T HIRE HIM.

What you may or may not know is Billy has received 7 DWI's in the last 5 years...he has also been actively pursuing young Co-Eds on all of the campus' he has worked....these and multiple other issues was his demise-not winning enough basketball games had nothing to do with his being fired. Also he had never signed the contract at kentucky...thus a legal document for his salary didn't exhist in a signed contract kind of way....so I think he has some scars that are going against him. As for him becoming the coach here, the guy is good, we sould just have to hire a fultime driver for him and make sure he stays away from the bars! But I say he needs a job, he'll be gone in 3 years and the program will have a full cupboard when he leaves. We need to be that stepping stone school, we want our coaches to move on, it means they are winning-I have already stated I think all coaches need tohave a 4 year contract, with a revolving 1 year extension-chosen to be exercised by the school if necessary...but we do need new blood and a new coach....

I posted some Top Candidates a few months ago on another thread, several turned up on this poll. Whom i would like to see or who will we be actively be pursuing....

I say an Assistant from the south/or someone with a proven tract record elsewhere, ie Jimmy Tillette/Billy Kennedy

here is what I posted on my thread from weeks back:

Andre Lafleur-Assistant at UCONN-instumental in all facets under Calhoun

Mark Gottfried-Great coach-good tract record-wasn't all Bama needed him to be-But a great coach-we'd love him

Melvin Watkins-proven winner at 2 Universities (Charlotte & Texas A & M)Head Assistant under Anderson at Missouri

Billy Gillespie-wants back in to coaching-proven winner-wont stay long as he will become a commdity quick-and everyone deserves a second chance!

Bobby Champagne-left the UL program as an assistant-proven winner at North Alabama-local ties-he might be a stretch-good man and good for this job-would love to see him given a shot.

Dennis Felton-A leader of young men-proven winner-especially in the SunBelt and a stand up Gentlemen.

Stan Jones-Associate Head Coach at Florida State-under Leonard hamilton and they have resurrected the FSU program in the ACC-Stan's originally from Mississippi-great coach

Russell Springmann-Assistant at Texas under Barnes-Knows the area and has produced winners for many years-one of the Top Assistant Coaches in the Country, he may get a higher ranked job before the UL one.

You can add Jimmy Tillette and Billy Kennedy-however, Murray State...and UL could possibly be viewed as a step down for Billy.....As for Jimmy--he has so much control over that Samford program, might be to tough of a challenge on a move back to the state.

There are viable candidates everywhere...Hell we could hire Tim Byrd from Riverside Academy and be guaranteed to have talent...would it be coachable and produce winners every season? Only time will tell-What we can't do is go the Butch Pierre route--we need a proven head coach/or a big time assistant with a yearning to get to a higher level and not be content with staying here-That is what we need.

    Sincerely,

    Blue Points!

In Louisiana, he could out-recruit Johnnie Jones (North Texas), John Brady (Ark St), and
    Rupp (La Tech).
    He's interested.

There are a lot of good candidates out there, and when we do make the move we need to give that person a fair shake to turn it around. Just for the record, though, I'd be all about getting Dennis Felton down here. As much as I hated him while he was at WKU, it was out of respect for what he did with that program. He'd have the ability to do great things here.
