Thread: Future head basketball coach should/will be

I voted for Champagne but only due to the list of candidates. I'd like to see Felton, Kennedy and Kaspar included. Out of those, I'd be happy with either one.

I did not know that Robert Lee read this board......

He must read it, since someone voted fro him, and the only person that could have done that is, the General himself.

    LOL!

I voted for Butch but it does trouble me that no one has given him a shot yet. Not sure why. Hell of a recruiter and seemed to coach well down the stretch for LSU as interim.

I'm just ready to get that spark of excitement back to the dome. Its been really hard to enjoy the past 2 or 3 seasons. I don't care who we get, as long as they bring back the excitement. Its one thing to be a bad team but see a flash or glimmer of hope, possible future improvement. I don't see that now. I just see a bad team with a bad coach. Its like a married couple that hate each other but just won't get the divorce.

I really like the 3 names at the top of this list, minue Brad Boyd. No offense Brad, but you are not yet qualified to be a D-1 Head Coach, although I would love to see you as an assistant on this team.

But Butch Pierre, Bobby Champagne and Tim Floyd are quality, experienced coaches in college basketball. Two of them are long time assistants at solid programs (Bobby is now coaching at University of North Alabama, but has solid assistant experience in D-1) and the third has been successfull whereever he has been. My only issue with Floyd is baggage he comes with.

PS: I would like to add Marty Fletcher and Jesse Evans to the list.......Just kidding.......For those interested Marty is now the Men's Basketball Analyst; Studio Analyst for the MWC. Previously he had been the director of officials for the MWC, as well as coach at Denver and the men's and women's coach at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, at least Marty stayed in basketball, whatever happened to Jesse after he was let go from San Fransisco?

    Thats pretty interesting Dave.
I find the obsession with Tim Floyd around here pretty odd. I don't want that guy coming to lafayette. We've already had an issue with under handed recruiting with Jesse Evans; bringing in Tim Floyd will only get us the microscope. I'm sure he's a good coach, but his history, coupled with Evans', I would much rather a Billy Kennedy our Butch Pierre.

Truth be told, I think we're wasting our time with all this talk anyway. The admin is going to end up hiring some high school coach. I have absolutely no confidence in them making a statement hire, which is what it will take to get this team back to prominence.

I don't know who will be hired. I am confident that it will be someone who has had some success as a head coach at the college level.

Jessie has been doing some scouting for the NBA.

Actually, I think Byron Starks name needs to be added to that list. He has been coaching for 14 years now and he would be a successful coach. He will also be a positive roll model for any basketball team.

We talk about the current condition of our basketball program... and the next hire of head coach is so critical, yet 17 of you at this point are willing to turn over the job to a young guy with ZERO college coaching experience.

Evidently, our basketball program is not as important as we thought.

Grow up a little first, Brad... then some of us might take you more seriously.

I miss those days. Having to get to the game 30 minutes before tip off to get a good seat in the student section and wait in line for a beer that was $6. Seeing razzle dazzle up and down the court. Seeing some amazing dunks. Having an inside and outside game. Being able to feel the excitement in the dome. oh those were the days. haha
