What word would that be? We wish we had kept him?
Brees last two years at SD were as good as his Saints years. If he were not injured he would have probably never put on a Saints uniform.
People are losing their minds when it comes to Brees. Is he grossly overpaid? Yes. Is he a system QB who needs Sean Payton to be successful? Hell no. You don't do what he has done without being great. The guy is a leader and works his asss off to win.

4 years of playing in San Diego he averaged 62%completions, 3031 yards, 20 TDs and 13 ints.
9 years in Nola he averages 67% completions, 4853 yards, 35 TDs and 15 ints.
Shoe fits here. No one can sustain success for 10+ years being a system QB. Defenses are too good.
Having watched him extensively for the past 9 years I can tell you his footwork in the pocket and his ability to look down field while under pressure is exceptional. Yes is arm is average. So what. Every QB has a weakness. The great ones work around their limitations and succeed anyway.

Certain QB's fit better in certain systems. Some qb's are asked to do more than others. Many different variables. Let's see the guy after Brees before we go praising Payton's system. Payton has had his play calling stripped from him before.
I'm not advocating replacing Brees, I'm saying draft the best QB likely to fit this system for when Brees can't cut it. He has three years to learn under Drew and then he can take over. Petty won't make it to the 3rd round, he is accurate, quick release and the strongest arm in the draft. Brees is 36, no reason to not prepare for the future much like agree bay did with Rogers.

See my post to crazycajun. If you think I want Petty to replace Brees tomorrow you're nuts.

But I also don't think we desperately need an edge rusher. We need Byrd to be healthy so Viccarro can do what he does well. We need help at CB regardless of the browner signing.

If they don't plan on drafting an OL in the first round to protect Brees then I would package some picks to move up in the first for another weapon for Brees and supplement the back half of the draft.

If they don't plan on dealing any picks I'd go after the best CB/LB with the 1st pick and an OL at 31. Hope that Petty is there at 44.

So the Saints are working on 10 straight years in the playoffs? 10 straight NFC South titles. Multiple Super Bowl rings. Defenses HAVE caught up to Brees. They get it. They have no problem giving up 5,000 yards to him if his team goes 8-8. Stats aren't the only thing that matters. To you Brees sycophants it seems to be the only thing.

No argument there. Sound reasoning. Petty at 44 would be sweet. Just not buying your system QB reference to Brees.
Wait, does San Diego still want a word with me?

If I were Loomis I would try to trade the 13th pick and a 3rd round pick to move up and get Amari Cooper. Then draft and OL at 31, Petty at 44 and address the defense after that.

    Cajunhawk logic:
Random Person (not as smart as CajunHawk) - did you see that game by Drew Bree's? He threw for 400yds and 3 Td's. It's a shame he threw that pick at the end of the game. It shouldn't have come down to that though. The defense can't give up 35 points.
CajunHawk (much smarter than random person) - can you get your nose out of Drew's fumble for a minute? The defense was playing him like a violin. They totally gave him the first 400 yards so they could set him up for the int. Playing against Brees is slightly tougher than playing against Jay Cutler. You do realize he has only won 1 Super Bowl!
Random idiot person: I don't know. I see a little slippage in his play but he still looks like a top tier qb.
CajunHawk- are you gay? Do I need to buy you some knee pads? The guy is worshipped only because Nola is a cesspool.
Random idiot person (getting smarter by the minute decides to just agree). - you may be right. I just hope Brees can complete a few passes downfield this year.

You said he could not run for 1000 yard in the SBC. You said Auburn was the reason he was good ( see a pattern here). He never touched the field. Our bet never started.

Guys, sorry about the thread hijack. I will leave this be. I do my share of Brees bashing on his salary, but I do like watching the guy play. We all strive to become the best we can be. In Brees' case he has achieved it.

There is no doubt that Brees is elite and a hard worker. There is also no doubt that the system Peyton runs allows him to put up Xbox numbers compared to what he did in San Diego.

He played last year at Louisville...tallied 223 monster yards.
