What makes you think that Robert Lee will not be back next season?

We have already run a thread about who we want as our next coach, but there is not a job open at UL. Given our history of not letting coaches go in the past what makes you think that we will not give Lee another season or two? I wonder if anyone has given thought to the university asking him to replace his assistants and keeping him on for a couple more years?

No, I have not heard anything to make me think that he is going to be signed on for another year, but I have also not heard one person say that they heard from David Walker or Joe Savoie that Lee will not be back.

I think administrative meddling has given the current coaches the long tenure leash they have enjoyed.

After convincing Robert to go with freshmen that resulted in the APR mess and after asking Bustle to replace his assistants following the 2006 season I don't think they will meddle again.

well i don't think you are going to hear anything either way. Walker and Savoie tend to keep those kind of things close to the vest. I was thinking the same thing though. I don't know how many years he has left on his contract but if he does have one more year after this one I would not be surprised if whether he's fired or not fired. But it would be a deathblow in my opinion to retain him if in fact he does have another season on his contract. Losing to Mobile and Centenary is bad enough but then prolonging that into another season I think you'd lose the fans.

I am shocked that ANYONE who is a Cajun fan is unaware that the current season is the last on his current contract. If he is let go the day after the season ends, the university will not owe him an additional dime. I do imagine

Turbine, Lee's decision to recruit more HS players was and is not the reason we ran into the APR troubles. Those were started by Evans and inherited by Lee. This year is the last on the 4 year "probation" that was imposed for which he has gotten our APR to nearly perfect.

Also, I do not think it would be prudent to basically announce that a coach will be fired before he is actually fired. That is unprofessional and if you are going to make such an announcement, why not just fire him? The writing is obviously on the wall as we all know that Lee was not extended and there is speculation that Walker laid some sort of perfomance standards on this season in order for Lee to meet to be considered longer term. I think the only way he stays is the very distant and remote chance that he win the conference tourney which would automatically extend him further.

If he wins the conference tournament and the play-in game, i vote to keep him.

APR has zero to do with Evans except Lee might have wanted his own players and dumped some of Evans players to get his own. That was not an Evans induced problem.

Besides the NCAA really started APR after Evans left although technically it was announced the spring of 04 his last year at UL and the first year of APR was retroactively or some might say immediately implemented.

In the early days of Lee's tenure it was bandied about or it was a running joke that because all scholarships were renewable from year to year it was a safe assumption that not every player would be back the next. This was the attitude knowing full well APR had come into play.

Some were under the false assumption that losing a former JC player from one year to the next would not hurt the APR as much as losing a high school player. That was now obviously wrong, and who perpetuated this myth I have no idea but it was out there. It was Lee's decision based on input from above to start the program over with High School players. I didn't have a problem with that except 'don't dump current players to make room.'

ps There is no such thing as a 4-year probation except that it seems like one since 05-06 APR score was so bad that it became impossible to recover from the rolling 4 year average.

This will be the 1st team in UL history to lose to 3 Div III schools (Mobile, Centenary & UNO) in one year. We can't even go DIII and win. Need any more reason?

Nice try, but the season is bad enough that you don't have to make up facts to why we lie.

Neither UNO or Centenary is Division III yet, so that is not the problem.

I was speaking of the rolling average which depending on what it is can put you on probation and cause loss of scholarship. I guess I mispoke. However, please look back as it is my understanding that the APR was down significantly at the end of Evans' time here. Lee did make some bad decisions but I thought the worst ones were bringing in the Juco guys rather than the HS players such as J.T. Fields and Ed turner, neither of which panned out and likely affected the APR negatively. I do know that the APR has improved in Lee's time here so I don't use the HS philosophy as a knock against him. We all complained about the previous coaches bringing in too many JUCO guys and whined about our lack of recruiting 4 year players. If we have a coaching staff that can actually develop players, we could be very successful with that approach.

Not yet but they will be soon and when soon comes, this team will not beat them.

I don't see why they don't get rid of him now and let lebato attempt to make things better for this year. It wouldn't cost the school any extra money and obviously, it couldn't hurt the team from a win-loss perspective. The only negative i could see would be from recruiting standpoint, but honestly, i don't think that matters at this point. Im curious as to how he would coach this team still having a majority of conference games left.
