If they made any kind of money on Ladies' Basketball, they probably would. But economics dictate that he'll finish out his contract if I'm a betting man.
Doesn't not firing these coaches because of their performance strengthen Baldwin's case. Also, what if anything do you think the Baldwin litigation has to do with us to continue to retain the basketball coaches (both of whom are black). I hope it has nothing to do with it, but to me it is the elephant in the room. As much as we would like to see improvements in football, at least they have a 500 record.
The same could be said in the thread about Robert Lee. With 1500 people in the stands they lose money at every game. That means that economics dictate that he (Robert Lee) will finish out his contract if I'm a betting man. It's almost a sure bet that those same economics will keep him on as coach next year with a 2-year contract extension. He works as cheap as any coach in Division one.
As for Rogers, there is no way they get rid of him until his contract is up, and by then Coach Hall will be working somewhere else. We lose twice on that decision.
Mercedes Johnson led UL with her second double-double on the season, posting a game-high 22 points with a career-high 16 rebounds in Thursday's game at Western Kentucky.
In the first Sun Belt road contest of the year, Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns women's basketball team fell to Western Kentucky, 74-52, on Thursday afternoon at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky.
The Cajuns now sit at 4-9 on the year overall and 0-2 in Sun Belt play. The Lady Toppers improved to 7-6 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
The Cajuns fell behind early, 18-6, as the Lady Toppers hit four three-pointers on their first eight attempts by the 11:58 mark.
Miscues and poor shooting hampered the Cajuns in the first half as they trailed 40-18 at the break. UL was only able to knock down 21.4 percent of its shots (6-28) and committed 12 turnovers which led to 12 points for WKU.
Lyndra Bell converted a three-point play on the second half's opening possession to cut the deficit under 20 points at 40-21. A triple by Kenzie Rich at 19:31 returned the WKU lead to 20-plus for the remainder of the game.
The Lady Toppers continued to pull away in the second half, stretching their lead to 27 points at the 12:25 mark after a Keisha Mosley basket made it 58-31.
Trailing 66-39, Louisiana outscored WKU 13-8 in the game's final 8:36 starting with a Mercedes Johnson layup at 8:08.
Johnson led UL with her second double-double on the season, posting a game-high 22 points with a career-high 16 rebounds. Jamie Gunter joined her in double-figures with 12 points.
WKU was led by LaTeira Owens' 20 points. Rich (11 points) and Hope Brown (10 points) joined her in double figures.
The Ragin' Cajuns will wrap up the season's first Sun Belt road trip on Sunday in Murfreesboro, Tenn. UL will face Middle Tennessee in the first game of the New Year. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

While it is possible that Kelley could find another job next season, he is just as likely to be patiently playing golf waiting for Errol's contract to end after next season. There are a few reasons for this. Kelley's contract @ Cincy was for 5 years, Errol's was for 4. Kelley & Meredith have discovered that money doesn't make the other side of the fence greener. They actually miss the place where their children were born and would like to come back here.
Here's some other things to think about: there are others besides Kelley who are interested in the position. The administration may not want to wait to the end of Errol's contract to reassign him to another position in the university. Who will have the most influence as to whether positions will be open and filled at any point of the season or off season?
One other point: somebody is under the assumption that Kelley's buyout from Cincinnati would allow him to work for free here. Uh, no. Any contract buyout will have protection in case the former employee obtains other employment during the contract period. Do you think Cincinnati is paying Brian Kelly to be Notre Dame's football coach right now? Not hardly.
That's the point, though. With Lee, the university is looking at 1,000-1,500 at every home game that Lee is still coaching as opposed to potentially 5,000-6,000 at every home game with a new, winning coach. They're losing buckets of money by keeping him, so that's incentive to bite the bullet and go find somebody, especially with this being the final year of his contract with no buyout required at the end to go in a different direction.
Rodgers, on the other hand, is very likely here until his contract runs out because even if Lady Cajun Basketball is winning tons of games, you're only going to get a few hundred spectators at home games. That is a great thing in Earl K. Long, but the university really doesn't benefit or hurt that much if the sport is left by the wayside for a while. More than anything we could do in any other sport, making a change at this position and bringing back the Halls would show me that we're going to have a real dedication to winning at all levels and in all programs at the school because it's the easiest position to do nothing with but twiddle their thumbs because the only thing it really hurts is not the bottom line, but school pride for the dedicated. It's what happened for years under Authement prior to the Halls' arrival. Making that change this year would show me as a fan that the school's administration is willing to take a temporary hit in the financial department if it means a big boost in pride and level of commitment.
First of all, you should know that Coach J. Kelley Hall reads Ragin Pagin daily and often posts. He can't come on here and answer that directly. However, if he wasn't interested, he would stop it. He is not saying anything to counter what I said.
Coach Hall's pay would be that he could save recruiting for THIS YEAR. That way WE WOULDN'T have to LOSE WITH ROGERS PLAYERS NEXT YEAR. That would be his PAY and the ONLY pay he is looking for. WIN. Isn't that what we are all after? He can restore Women's BBall to what it was when he left and he can do it quickly. The Women just LOST for the 22nd straight time against SunBelt teams, if anyone is still counting, since Rogers took over from an NCAA team. Rogers has had every opportunity to win and he is continuing to fail miserably. Our Women's BBall program is quickly falling into the abyss. It can be corrected NOW with no additional cost to UL.
