Thank you my friend. Nothing interests me more than the next hire we make in basketball. I think this will be a symbolic (a microcosm, dare I say) of the direction our athletic department is heading.

We will be able to tell by contract $$$, who we hire, the promises we make a new coach. It is the first hire for Walker and Savoie. And in a sport with arguably our greatest tradition (excluding softball). I am very very excited about it.

I am cautiously optomistic. Unfortunatley, UL has not given me much hope over my 38 years, and therefore, I am in a state of, "I'll believe it when I see it." Let's hope the current admin. can change the course of how athletic business is done around here. Have a great New Year.

I think that we've all seen enough of Dennnis Felton to know about him without a bio. All you need to know about him is that he whipped our tails year in and year out while at WKU.

All you need to know about Gillispie is that he was good enough for Kentucky to hire. If that is not enough then I'll give you more.

    Overall 140–85

    WAC Regular Season Championship (2004)

Big 12 Coach of the Year (2005, 2007)
SEC co-Coach of the Year (2008)

    Coaching career (HC unless noted)

    Texas State (asst.)
    Killeen HS (asst.)

You’re the one who said you wanted “Intelligent Debate”. How do you expect debate on an opinion when nobody knows how it was formed? Look at anhil8tor…he threw a name out there, and when asked why he suggested it, it was because the guy coached here for 4 years, a decade ago. That’s what I was getting at, earlier. Did he mention BC simply because it's a local name that’s been thrown around before…or was it because there was some specific accomplishment or achievement that set him apart from others…or even because anhil8tor’s very knowledgeable about basketball and recruiting, and is confident that BC would be successful at UL? If you want debate on the subject, then please just offer points to discuss. If someone thinks a coach is worth suggesting, then it shouldn’t be too big of a task to list a few/several reasons why they feel that way.

Fair enough. I complied with the demands. Although everything I typed and more could be simply found in the bio. I have pretty clearly marked out for the two guys. Pierre and Kennedy.

I think either one would be an exciting hire.

Felton is obvioulsy a wise choice. Very successful in the Sunbelt. Not so much at Georgia. I obviously could not disagree with the choice of Dennis Felton.

Also, there is more than you need to know about Billy Gillespie than his coaching record. The guy has had multiple DUI's. He is also currently in an alcohol rehabilitation center.

With that being said, if you like old school, Gillespie is as tough as they come. He is a phenomenal coach, and a tireless worker. With that being said, if we are thinkg about him, there may be other guys having the same thoughts with deeper pockets.

Do we really want a drunk to coach our kids and represent our university?

No, which is why he wasn't my suggestion. I was just elaborating on another guy's post.

I don't really have a horse in the race. I just said I thought the two front runners were Kennedy and Pierre.

An interesting thing about Gillespie. The same thing is going on with Tiger Woods and it happened with Larry Eustachy. Those guys go into rehab programs, then when they come out, you cannot mention their previous problems, because they were sicknesses and not character flaws.

Actually, Eustachy illustrates my point about Gillespie. Eustachy was at Iowa State, and got in trouble and he went to Southern Miss. Gillespie problems were much less publicized, and he was at Kentucky, he may be in line for a more high profile job.

Updates on some of the guys mentioned on this board as potential candidates as we start the New Year...

    Billy Kennedy and Murray State...

10-3 (2-0) in conference. One of his leading scorers is New Orleans native Danero Thomas.

    Butch Pierre and Oklahoma State....

11 - 1 (0-0) in conference. Two incoming recruits are two of the three best players in Louisiana.

Danny Kaspar at Stephen F. Austin

    9-3

    Bobby Champagne at North Alabama

    6-5

He won Sun Belt Conference titles with WKU in 2001, 2002, and 2003.
In 02 WKU was ranked 17th in the nation.
In 03 WKU was ranked 19th in the nation.

He knows how to win in the Sun Belt.

He should be at the very top of the list. _
Very good point. Felton is not currently coaching anywhere and I'd love to see us at the very least, contact him and see if he'd be interested. I think he'd be a nice hire also.
