Do any of you people know why you add these links in here? Do you know anything about any of these coaches? At least list some highlights from their resume and show that you've done a little due diligence and know why you're listing their names. Every time a new basketball coach comes up, the same names (esp. Pierre, Kennedy, Champagne, Louie Cook) always appear and I wonder if some of you actually think these guys are worth a crap or just list them because you've seen them listed in a previous thread. As an example, the first time I ever heard Billy Kennedy's name was in a post by Boomer a year or so ago, in which he mentioned that BK would be a good option because he went to Jesuit or was from New Orleans, or something. Now, every time the topic comes up, somebody lists his name. Not saying he's not a good coach or wouldn't be a good choice, but at least give some reasons. At least Mike gave a little info on Kaspar and Kennedy, and CajunRebel supported his vote for Felton with some of his accomplishments.
If you've got a guy that you think would be a good candidate, then offer his name and give us something about him (experience, record, coaching style, career highlights, offensive and defensive rankings, postseason appearances, coaches he's tutored under, etc.). Anyone can search the internet and post bio links to the same retreaded names or to random dudes. If a guy is worth mentioning as a potential coach...if you think he would be a good fit or is a hell of a coach...at least take the time to mention why and some facts to support your opinion. Why do you think that Pierre would be better than Kennedy? Do you think that Kaspar brings enough to the table to keep our attention off of the unfortunate porn 'stache? Does Gillespie's ability and potentially low price (after UK buyout) negate his other "issue", and/or does the school just create a internship called Billy's Driver to prevent any more "issues"?
I thought the reason that I was putting their bio is so you could do some due dilligence, and read why we think that they are good coaches.
Billy Kennedy:
- New Orleans Guy
- Recruits Louisiana
- Back to Back District 8 Louisiana Coach of the Year
- Southland conference campionship at Southeastern in 2004-2005
- Has been in college coaching for 25 years. Has probably about a decade of head coaching experience.
- Took Centenary from Dismal to .500.
- Coached at Cal
- Billy is more of his half court guy, slower tempo
- Also, his Murray team won 20 games two years ago, and are poised to win the Ohio Valley this year
Butch Pierre:
- Assistant here during Fletcher years
- Best recruiter of Louisiana in the entire country
- Signed the two best Louisiana players to Oklahoma State this year
- Teams have had success whereever he has gone
- Obvioulsy, no head coaching experience.
- Largley responsible for LSU's run to the Final Four
- Signed players of National Acclaim when at UL
- Signed the following guys, Michael Allen, Chris Manuel, Kelvin Price, Sydney Grider, Carol Boudreaux, Byron Starks, Marcus Stokes.
- Has a big name across the State and around this area...
I think either of these guys would make tremendous success. Billy has been successful everywhere he has gone. Butch would be more of a gamble, at least considering the no head coaching expereince. However, I think he would get the best players in Louisiana year in and year out. LSU or not.

Things I like about Bobby:
- Hometown: Lafayette, Louisiana
- 1997-98 Assistant Coach University of Louisiana-Lafayette
1998-99 Assistant Coach University of Louisiana-Lafayette
1999-00 Assistant Coach University of Louisiana-Lafayette
NCAA Tournament/Sun Belt Champions
2000-01 Assistant Coach University of Louisiana-Lafayette
Not only do we want local all-star prep teams in all sports, but we want the local high school coaches to coach them?
I know I'm exaggerating, but why is it that every recruit we miss or coach we covet from south of I-10??
Let the persons who think I'm wrong begin the attack....NOW.
I have no link to the man, but I would suggest Jeff Van Gundy.
-Has expressed interest coaching and taking a lesser role as assistant (makes our cost less)
-Man is known for being a workaholic
-Known for making his Knicks teams over-achieve
-Worked under Rick Petino at Providence during their Final Four run
-Knows how to handle media
-Would bring in instant credibility and attention
-Has a sense of humor that players react to positively, allows them to deal with hard work
-Push players to work in his manor, pushing a 3/4 press for much of the game
-Can get any player he wants, through recruiting (NBA only gets you those drafted)
-Has an idea of the area after coaching in Houston
What do you guys think?
Geaux Cajuns - Just Win
Van Gundy would probably cost way too much money....
I just don't think there is any logical connection to our school to make me think that he would even consider it.
Also, sometimes NBA guys coming back to college aren't a great fit. Look at Sidney Lowe at NC State.
He was on the hot seat last year. He may be 9-3. Any coach at a high major should be 9-3, before conference.
His wins: Akron, Austin Peay, Auburn (by 2 on neutral, Sam Houston beat them by 30 at Auburn), UNO, Marquette (good win, but Marquette is down), Georgia Southern, Elon (by 3 at home), Wintrhop
His losses: Northwestern (IL), Wake Forest, Arizona
Another word on Sidney Lowe....
Overall Record 60-49 (15-34 conference) 0 Tourneys
His predecessor
Herb Sendek
Overall Record 191-132 (72-88 conference) Run out of town after 4 straight tourneys.
So, no. It hasn't worked out.
