Cajuns Baseball Cant Overcome Miscues Against Nicholls State

Need to solidify the middle, if we can do that by getting trosclair back we have many more combinations at 3rd between Conrad, shugg, Powell and Robbins... Also more flexibility with DH... Right now you have to have trosclair there. Looks like they are giving clement a shot to play CF... Hopefully he can be at least solid there. It's crazy how missing that one piece puts a limit on so many possible combinations.

I agree. I think many people overlook how good Leonards was at third. I'd like to see Robbins get a little more time at third. I know we haven't seen him there because the coaches were trying to maximize the hitting lineup, but we need to get some consistency in the field.

I think if folks didn't realize how good he was last year, they do now lol. I will never forget the fielding clinic he and Trahan put on during that regional last year. Nothing could get by Leonards that weekend

He is throwing... Don't think we will know anymore than that until you see him run out to 2b

I think it has more to do with the coaches not trusting anyone else at CF than it has to do with maximizing the lineup. We don't have a true CF on the roster, and Robbins is the closest thing. Herrington would be a close second, but he's struggled with the bat early on...

Actually jam is probably the closest thing to a CF we have. His tools just are not refined just yet. Next year will be different

Ok… so do you think Robbins at CF over Jam has to do with a bat or defense or both? My point is, we don't have a true defensive center fielder on the roster RIGHT NOW which is why I think Robbins is playing there… Jam may be a true CF down the line, but isn't ready this year. I don't think Robbins is playing CF to give us an extra decent bat in the lineup as much as I think coach Robe doesn't really think any of the other "potential" center fielders are ready… He's gone to Herrington a few times, recently Clement got a shot… None are true Center Fielders though and I think Robbins is the closest to that, regardless of whether he was recruited as a SS or not. Many high school short stops were the best baseball player on their high school teams and played there out of necessity, even though they may be built for a different position at the next level. It's like QB's in high school football won't always get a shot at QB at the college level, but may be a good enough athlete to play elsewhere...

Agreed. You gotta have talent but very few other team athletic endeavors can end up going so wrong due to a mental issue like baseball can.

There is no other sport that you play against the game and yourself as much as you do the opponent than baseball

I think it's Robbins over Jam because Robbins has a little baseball knowledge. His baseball IQ may be a little better than Jam. I think if we had a CF Robbins would be at third. Robbins has done great filling in at CF bc we don't have many options. Let's face it...after the first few weekends his bat has cooled off significantly.
