Thread: Would you encourage your child to sign at UL?

Default Would you encourage your child to sign at UL?

Odds are very good that Bustle has one year left, two at the most.
Odds must be at least 90% that Lee is going to be asked to leave at the end of this season.
Odds are kind of good that after Rob's son graduates from Notre Dame that he will be looking to coach elsewhere.
And in the ladies department, odds are very good that Rodgers will not be at UL long.

If there were options, would you encourage your child to sign at UL with the understanding that if he/she signs with the current coach, there will probably be a different coach prior to your child graduating?

We all know that some of the moves in the athletic department over the past few weeks are to improve stability in our programs, but have we really accomplished our goal? We all fear the unknown. If my son was a junior or senior I don't know if I could encourage him to play for UL at this point in time.

I would encourage my son to attend here. He will get to live in a great city for four years. He will have some of the nicest people around supporting him and some of the best beautiful ladies in the country as scenery. He will also get a great education at a fine institution. Regardless of who is coach, he will have an opportunity to play in facilities which are improving regularly.

The point that you are missing is that the men's bball and ladies bball will be replaced with much better coaches----Bustle's status remains up in the air based on next year-----Damn we have been soooo close to bowling these last 5 years!!!!!!--Track and CC are healing quickly and I think that Robe will stay and bring the son along!!!! Might be one of the best times in the history of the school to sign-up!!!!

I would let him go where he feels confortable. I would not push him into this situation. UL's programs have sunk to below average with no specific plan for excellence for the future. Being involved in youth sports it is discouraging to see the youth becomming die hard FB fan, with very little even acknowledging cajun athletics. Sure winning helps, but these team allegiances are built early. JMO.

    I concur.

It would really depend on his choices. I would encourage him to attend UL over any instate school except for Tulane (It has a good national reputation and name recognition). Athletics would be an after thought since academics comes first and if he is truly gifted UL has proven we can send players to the pros.

You would be very surprised at how little a recruit knows about the coaching staff. There is so much more that goes into that decision then just that. It is a confusing, very stressful time for both the athlete and parents. Every recruit has different goals and different ideas about what is important to them. Initially it is the coaches that the athlete comes in contact with. For many it is where an athlete feels comfortable after the official visit. Most people don't know how the recruting process works....it is very difficult. In our case UL's staff were very professional and some of the nicest people we met. You have much to be proud of.

Coach Bustle has either one year or three or more remaining. If he wins 7 games in 2010, he gets an automatic extension according to his current contract. He has two right now after the extension. However the buyout is reduced so he can be let go with a lower one year payment if 2010 is a disappointing year. If he is successful in 2010, the accomplishment extension kicks in.
