UL — A familiar yet out-of-place voice chimed in during the question-and-answer portion of UL men's basketball coach Bob Marlin's Monday news conference to preview the third round of the CollegeInsider.com tournament.


It was baseball coach Tony Robichaux, not asking a question but reminiscing to his days as a student-athlete, when he would watch the basketball team play in front of rowdy crowds at Blackham Coliseum.

Blackham Coliseum was the host a Super Bowl type of event in 1950 ... the Camellia Show and the Camellia Pageant.

Over 70,000 + attended the Show in Blackham with 25,000 blooms (national record at the time), and the Pageant was sold out at 8500 for performances with the Camellia Queen and her court plus student performances.

The event attracted over 100,000.

And the basketball team played in Earl Long Gym.

Times and priorities have changed.
