Thread: Is a fifth New Orleans Bowl doable for UL?

  1. Default Is a fifth New Orleans Bowl doable for UL?

If the UL football team simply takes care of business again in 2015, Sun Belt Conference commissioner Karl Benson — judging by recent comments — would not be surprised to see the Ragin' Cajuns back in the New Orleans Bowl going for one for the thumb in 2015.

“It’s been a win-win, I think, for UL, and it’s been a win-win for the bowl. And it’s been a great financial model for us,” Benson said in New Orleans.

Earlier this year at the Go-Daddy Bowl, however, Benson did tell an Alabama newspaper he feels “there would be benefit from having some variety” when it comes to SBC teams and the bowl games in which they play.

“As well as Arkansas State has come to Mobile and Lafayette has done in New Orleans,” the commissioner said to Al.com, “I think it would be beneficial to the rest of the conference for teams to experience the New Orleans Bowl and the Mobile bowl.”

So Benson skipped actually skipped Louisiana all together, or did the Leopards join the league when I was not looking. So Benson wants us out of NOLA Bowl. So Benson wants less money to raid.

Benson wants to appease everyone… but manages to appease no one. The last line of the article surely sounds like something that would come out of the mouth of an ULMost tabby cat USTOOU administrator...

I am pretty sure Benson is bipolar when it comes to us. He hates us but loves the money and the publicity we bring to the conference.

I think it would be great with a higher profile opponent and a Saturday night game time.

Benson says the NOLA bowl would take the Cajuns whether their record was 8-4, 9-3 or 10-2. Talk about a motivator!

    Team goals:
    1. Be bowl eligible, check!
    2. Win all your home games, check!
    3. Win your conference, check!
    4. Win 10+ regular season games, check!
    5. Go to the NOLA bowl... again.... for the fifth time... yep

Benson hates us cause he knows we are on the first train out of here, and A State too. After that, he knows this crappy conference will fall apart on him like the WAC.

GET OUT OF THE SUN BELT! DO WHATEVER IT TAKES!

    Irreconcilable differences.

Well at this point we can get out of the SB-C without anyones permission, but being an independent is a bit of a mountain. No NCAA in just about anything. Before we get out, we need a harbor, not the deep blue sea.

Agreed but I feel driven to push our leaders to get us a viable alternative. I'm not the sharpest tool in the box but I can't buy the fact that we can't get invited to CUSA. I'm of the opinion that we deliberately committed ourselves to the SBC while others had a clear vision of the vehicle they needed to advance their cause. It's really time that our leaders wise up. I'm tired of the silence, excuses, politics, and am of the opinion that we have a unique product and therefore the opportunity to be the best we can be.
