Then I guess the OL will have to make their blocks and the wide receivers will have to do a good job of getting open. We want to put this all on Haack, but last year, the wide receivers did miss a lot of catches they should have had, even with a "injured" Broadway. ...And the defense will need to get stops so the offense can execute. If Haack has to run it won't be because he is choosing to, it's because he has to. That means others may not be doing their jobs.

I remember when Slappy was warning just about everyone about jumping on the Farmer bandwagaon before considering all the alternatives, while most everyone thought it was a great decision.

Now, it seems most all are calling for Haack ... I think HUD knows it is a much more difficult decision than those who believe it is obvious now.

I like to see that he is hitting Scott deep. That guy is so fast, and can't remember how many times he was wide open down the field and we simply could not get him the ball. Scott could be a huge weapon for us!

Basinbear is correct. Haack's biggest asset is his ability to quickly read down progressions, find the open guy and get the ball to him. Unlike the last two years, we will use the entire field in the passing game. This will open up running lanes for the Prophet and others.

Will need the OL to step up big time to give him time. Agree it could be fun, though, if line develops.

I think it's always interesting to recall the numerous arguments on here on a variety of subjects. I just hope that if Haack does get the start, that he absolutely shines like a superstar... even if that means everyone that ever posted "#freeHaack" constantly reminds everyone else of their unlimited prognosticative wisdom.

It's kind of funny how QBs and fans end up in marriages and divorces. If a QB isn't near perfect... the backup QB certainly is... if you know what I mean.

For me, the reason I'm a little more inspired that I hear Haack is looking really sharp in practice is the fact that for our QB... I'm very interested... especially this coming year... to see the entire field utilized, mercilessly, by a sharp minded, sharp eyed, ball delivery machine. It's like some have already said... if a QB can spread the ball around... to numerous skill people... from an assortment of sets... from every eligible position... anywhere on the field... short / middle / deep ... it exponentially explodes the choices and success rate of the offense.

It doesn't just beat equal to lesser opponents (as we've been used to). But it has the ability to cripple a really good program's defense... and allow UL to overcome the hump of playing and beating equal to better programs. "That" is why we need to make very sure that whoever we choose at the QB helm... especially this year... is a true ball distributing expert. If that distribution requires he keep it and punish a defense for giving him too much open field... so be it. But the power of being truly dangerous offensively... is in the brain and arm of a great ball distributing master... when you have the weapons we have this coming year.

Prime example, if you told most people the saints were 6th in rushing in 2009... They would think you are lying.

I think its great to have these discussions archived as well. It will interesting to see just how fast some fans throw Haack under the bus after a poor game or his first multi-interception game. They would probably point back to this thread and say this is why Hudspeth delayed announcing a starter at QB after spring football.

JMO, I've been around Hudspeth long enough now to know him and say he is not going to do so until the very last minute to keep all of them focused on competing. Off the record or in his mind, he knows who the starter is today. My money is on Haack.

Just hope it's not a situation similar to when Blaine Gauthier was left on the bench behind Chris Masson a few years back, that was a travesty.

I know it was a different staff, but it sounds like the same thing again - accurate passer with decent mobility has a few years in the system, and should be the starter due to experience over the less experienced, stronger armed, more mobile quarterback.

Difference here is that I can see is Gauthier was in the program for two years already, Davis is just a RS-freshman. Nixon doesn't fit your statement as far as a stronger or more accurate arm. Don't see the comparison on or off the field from my observations.

While we all want our QB to have as much time as possible, honestly, a lot of pressure last year came because our QB held the ball too long because his first option was covered and he was slow reading progressions.
