Thread: The choice is clear

  1. UL Football Re: The choice is clear

I hope I see him run about as much as Brees. We need much better protection from our tackles than last year, Broadway was constantly being harassed from the defensive ends left and right, or the outside linebacker. Our run blockers did a much better job of moving the line than holding the line.

I get there will be times for him to run, but I hope that isn't often.
My point is, he's no statue like Mett was for LSU (first example that came to mind). He can run if he needs to improvise. And teams still have to respect him on option runs. Although he won't be as effective at that as the guys previously mentioned. But if they run that every now and then with Haack, he'd do just fine with it

Triple threat is what we're looking for in the spread. Smart-Pass-Run QB (and in that order). When you assess the arm and feet of a QB... make sure you've included his head.

And in reality... our personnel this coming season fit getting the ball distributed to them. That has little to do with the QB's legs... and whole lot more to do with his arm and his head. When a smart QB starts delivering the ball to the 5 to 7 options on the field... it seriously spreads out the defense. And to me... in order to keep that QB healthy for the entire season... I'd like his head to open up wide open spaces to run and slide for yardage. Defensive players are starting to eliminate a full season of injury-free running back QBs.

We aren't running a pro style set, even with Haack. And don't think Haack has concrete feet. If he's a heady QB... he'll create space to run that will damage the defense exactly how the play is drawn up to do.

Haack's arm is just good, really good. You gotta find a way to use it in your offense. Too good of an arm to sit the bench anylonger. JMO

Many good observations here but let me add one that I observed last fall....Haack can read progressions from boundary to boundary...something Terrance struggled with. This will truly open up both the run and pass. Now....I think he will win the starters job....let's see how he handles it under fire in multiple games.... (I know, Coaches are never satisfied)

Just imagine what the profit will do once the defense has to stretch for the pass #HaackAttack

I think Haack will do a better job than Broadway getting the ball around to different receivers.
