Thread: Smith holds Cajuns players to higher standards

  1. Default Smith holds Cajuns players to higher standards

It was the first day of spring practice for the UL football team earlier this month, and Ragin' Cajuns assistant coach Melvin Smith was giving his new charges a taste of what they can expect.

“I get a chance to build a product,” added Smith, who has his much-coveted first defensive coordinator’s job at the NCAA Division I level. “I don’t want to be average. If they want to be average, I don’t want them around me.” - Coach Smith

I freakin' love this statement. This attitude coupled with the other new faces on the Defensive staff... I think we're going to see a damn good defense come opening day. If our offense can stay par for the course, we will be very dangerous.

Speaking of our offense... everyone seems to get hung up on what QB will be taking over. I don't think it's a huge issue because we can rely heavily on the run with a stud like McGuire in the mix. On top of that, I truly believe Haack has the tools to run a solid offense.

We'll see what happens, but I think I'm going to like Coach Smith and this group of Defensive Coaches!

----I think that the improvement in the ability of the players in the secondary will automatically give us improvement there!!! Remember the 2 Freshmen safeties started playing in the late season and we didn't have Thomas ----Also the backups should be better!!!
