Thread: Several signings of JUCO players expected at UL

BCS schools gets theirs first, then conferences like CUSA, then SBC, and then the Southland. It is a pecking order. Recruits old out then when the big boys stop showing interest then they begin to listen to the next group of teams. Right now McNeese has only 2 commitments that are known by the public.

I know a lot of players hold off on their commitment until they find out if they get an offer from one of the BCS schools on their list. _
I don't think UL has cracked the top 100 in recruiting ever. This is the current reality as a Sun Belt team that hasn't been to a bowl in any of the players' lifetimes. This year is no different. Our recruiters are having to fight against decades of a losing mentality. It will take 7-8 win seasons, bowl appearences, and BCS upsets over many years to change this.

    However

The recruiting classes of 8 years ago vs. the recruiting classes of today are orders of magnitude better. I believe we currently have the players to win 7 games. Once you do that and prove you can win, the better players start showing interest. Then hopefully the cycle repeats.

According to rivals.com, the 2003 recruiting class was 56th nationally - ahead of schools such as Wake Forest, Middle Tennessee, South Florida, SMU, Kentucky, Michigan State, Clemson, Houston, TCU, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulsa, UConn, Utah, Cincinnati, Penn State, Fresno State, East Carolina, Boise State, Northern Illinois, Central Michigan and BYU.

The Cajuns had four three-star players in Jordan Jackson, Antwain Spann, Ricky Thomas and Devin Williams.

Some of the two-star guys: Michael Adams and C.C. Brown. Both are now in the NFL.

Thank you JP for always stating only the facts... it's refreshing.

Then I stand corrected. We've gotten worse at recruiting?

We're clearly getting JUCOs in order to have some faster impact players this coming year. It is the obvious thing to do considering Bustle's status. I like a constant look at JUCOs regardless of the circumstances, for our program. But, this year, we need an infusion of talent (in particular on the lines) that can either come in and contribute immediately or provide needed depth for this critical upcoming season. I also like Streeter coming in and providing a threat at KO return... something we've also been missing.

I think we've beat the recruit ranking thing to death on this forum. We are in the 2 star recruit class of schools right now. Get over it, or get you some cardiac arrest. There are 23 good explanations and they've all been listed as to the star system applicability to UL.

Explanation 1. When you have a 1 star management approach to football, you cannot expect 3 and 4 star results.

That year we gave out 30 something scholarships and that is why we were ranked 56th. Last year we were ranked so low because on signing day we only gave out like 13-16 scholarrships.

Rivals ranks each schools by total points not by average quality. Last year Florida only gave out like 16 scholarships so they were ranked 11th. Of the 16 scholarships 3 were 5 star and 12 were 4 star players.

The above mentioned 3 star players Devin Williams never became eligible and Jordan Jackson barely saw the field and when he did he was not very good.

That explains a lot. I thought Rivals ranked classes according to average star quality. After re-looking at the rankings, you are correct in that the number of commitments is rewarded as much as the star rating is. Seems like a misleading process at best.

This shows that we as fans often use the wrong information to arrive at the wrong conclusions.
