From what I heard, RJ brought a real attitude along with him on his visit to UL.

I still think James could have been a quality player here, plus there was that family connection with his dad.

Thats what I was thinking. After years of a "build the program" type attitude, its finally time to "put up or shut up". Hopefully this brings us that elusive 7th win next season.

I think Bustle may be having trouble convincing recruits that he will be around for four years. I'd sure be throwing that out there if I was recruiting against UL. I expect UL to sign a below average class this year.

Below average compared to what? Compared to previous years, UL is WAY ahead of the game. If RB and his staff can convince players they can play right away (should be easy of you are a RB, WR, OL or DL) they will sign.

There are probably no coaches in the SBC who can boast employment four years from now. Neither can Dooley or Toledo.

Recruiting will probably be what it always is: a few studs, a couple of "finds" and a bunch of projects. As HouCajun said it looks like the hand wringing over Bustle's lame duck status is much ado about nothing.

I keep hearing about Bustle having trouble with recruiting because he doesn't have 4 years remaining on his contract. Maybe I am missing something, but this seems to imply to any coach out there who needs to be effective in recruiting needs to ALWAYS have 4 years left on his contract to do so. This would mean that every coach is getting extensions every year as he goes through another year on his existing contract.

My guess is that there are many coaches out there with varying amounts of time left on their contracts. Some have 4 or 5... some 3 or 4... some 1 or 2 like Bustle.

When did they players decide who is wanted or isn't wanted?

Players don't, but they can certainly tell coaches what a prospect is interested in doing while here on a visit. It that prospect is interested in doing things that would create problems for the football program or staff, then why would they want them?

Compared to previous years. The Scout Recruiting Service has UL's current list of commitments ranked 113 out of 118 schools in the nation. I don't see how UL is WAY ahead of the game. Maybe some JC signings are imminent and I just don't know about them or something. Do SBC teams normally get most of their commitments late in the recruitment process? I know a lot of players hold off on their commitment until they find out if they get an offer from one of the BCS schools on their list.
