Both Men's and Women's basketball have deteriorated to Baldwin level. What does it take for UL to do something, anything to salvage basketball? The Men lose to Mobile and the women lose to NC A&T. And people wonder why no one is contributing to the RCAF. UL gives no one a reason to contribute because it does nothing. It is like a stock offering. There is no value in the stock so no one buys it. We are losing more and more fans daily. Why should fans care when the university exhibits no caring at all. People have better things to do, have better ways to spend their entertainment dollars, and have lost all caring for UL because UL gives them nothing to care about. What will it take for UL to get off of its a** and take some action, any action to restore UL athletics to some level of prominance and get its alumni and fans enthused about athletics again? If 12,000 for a football game and 1,500 for a basketball game aren't enough incentives to take action, then things just maybe hopeless.
Although last night's game was ugly and there is no sugarcoating it, the above post may be slightly pessimistic. Reading it makes you think we will finish with a 5 and 25 record. After losing to Mobile, if you had told me that would be the case, I would have believed it. Recently we won two in a row and that surprised all of us. Just as the 64% vs Sam Houston was an anomaly, the 16% in the first half last night was also an anomaly. I suspect the norm will return and we will win a few more than some believe. I am not predicting a winning season or anything close to it. When it is over, I believe we will have a slightly better record than last season. I recognize for that to happen, Wallace and Gary may need to be healthy in order for us to improve rebounding which is a major shortcoming.
I am suggesting that for women's basketball for sure, because we have an available coach who is ready and willing to reassume the head coaching job, Coach Hall. We already know what he can do because he already did it here. He wants to come back and we can get him NOW with no additional salary to pay for the remainder of this season.
The Men's team is lost right now and in chaos. Things will only get worse. Name either Coach LeBato or Dixon as interim head coach for the remainder of this year and do a national search following the season.
Take action and show that UL is concerned about the direction and status of our programs. To sit idly by and watch this debacle worsen week after week is cancerous.
If we can agree that 95% of the fanbase is fed up with the way this team has looked the past couple of years and everybody points to one person in particular as to why this is (wink, wink), then it may be beneficial to let him go now only to at the very least bring a sigh of relief to many that something is going to be done sooner rather than later and maybe bring a few people to the games.
Here are some interesting stats:
Coach Hall was at UL from 02-03 thru 06-07:
02-03 8-19 (overall) 3-11 (conference)
03-04 13-15 7-8
04-05 22-9 10-5 (1st in West Div.)
05-06 18-10 8-7 (2nd in West Div.)
06-07 22-9 14-4 (1st in West Div. - NCAA Tourn.)
Coach Hall left for Cincinnati and Coach Rogers took over:
07-08 8-22 (overall) 4-14 (conference)
08-09 3-27 0-18
09-10 2-7 (to date) with losses to Lamar, Southern, NC A&T and Southeastern (twice), Idaho & Baylor
And, the play on the court is horrific. Need I say more?
