We don't need, as in football, a marquee name for basketball. Basketball will jumpstart itself in very short order with a good coach. It does not require what a never-been-there football program requires.
For basketball, we do not need to discount a local coach with a solid resume. UL basketball can re-establish a premiere program with simply getting a guy who knows how to coach... Xs and Os, game and player management, knows how to motivate players to follow his practice regiment while transferring and maintaining player leadership to the right ones.
I don't have a problem with a known head coach (without issues), a promising assistant (without issues), a person from the area or with UL ties (without issues) or a combination.
We used to succeed with good basketball minded head coaches... and they were not geniuses. UL, the city, the Cajundome, the food, the culture, the academics and such... should not make it that difficult... with a good coach... to recruit good basketball talent that wins SBC championships and gives us postseason play at least 60% of the time.
If we use one ounce of intelligence in our next selection, we'll be right back in the sweet saddle in basketball. In other words, I think we could do 20 plus wins a season with 50% of the people mentioned.
