_ Understood, However if we could bring in a top assistant from another basketball powerhouse, would you not give them as much consideration as a Bobby Champagne or Butch Pierre? This is why I chose Tim Floyd if given the choice. _

A top assistant from a powerhouse conference may get consideration, however they won't necessarily benefit from that experience as they cannot be judged how they will be perform without the big resources. It does not matter what I think or you. I am telling you that the guys making the decision will lean heavily towards the guys with HEAD Coaching experience.

_ A Division 2 school with a 4 and 4 record now is likely to have a good season. Often, many of those early games for non D1 schools are payday games on the road. North Alabama has gone far in the Division 2 playoffs under Champagne in previous seasons. _

I also think Champaigne is a good coach and I may not be angry with the hire, but I could see the public perception as us making a hire of another nobody. But I'll back you on this one Brad....Champaigne is a good coach and has a good shot at suceeding at this level.

Brad the real question is, will Bobby Champ get the Lafayette community excited about basketball again? I think the answer is no. I watched the game yesterday and there were seriously maybe 1000 people there. I remember when we played New Mexico St. for the outright Belt Championship at the dome and we had about 9000 butts in the seats.

Bobby would not bring that kind of excitement back to the program IMO. I think that we need to get a NAME coach to come here and get us back to the level that Western is at. Mark Gottfried and Billie Gillespie are two guys who are available to my knowledge and their name alone carries credibility. The community would also see that we got a guy who has won before at the D1 level.

Hate to say it, Brad... but it appears that your main support of Bobby Champagne is that he may be a friend that would provide you a chance to be an ssistant at UL.

Looking back on your years as a player, I would not look forward to your being a coach here. I'll leave it at that.

I think that it will take 4-5 years to get us back to where we were when Jessie left. So any coach who comes in is not going to bolt for greener pastures after two years. I would love to be a consistent stepping stone program for coaches like WKU. Unless we dump tons of money into basketball we won't be a destination program as a mid major, there are very few that are.

I want to see exciting basketball not some crappy half court run 30 seconds off of the shot clock type game. I want to see the dribble drive motion, or a style similar to Louisville with Pitino. Maybe something like UNLV used to do, high pressure defense and a lot of transition baskets. Dunks and Defense! lol

I think we have the depth and type of player now to play that style of ball. Lord knows we are not tough enough or physical enough to play a half court game and win. We are built to run the floor and play pressure defense. To bad we do not play that way.

Robert Lee/Butch Pierre/Jessie. Even Bustle. I like to see some success at some level at head coach position. Not that we can offer a salary that would attract a major head coach. It will be interesting to see who our top three fall coaches are after 2010.

I think it was more than his opinion. San Francisco has a great bball tradition having won a national championship years ago and plays in the same league as Gonzaza and St. Mary's. Quite a step up from the SBC.
