Thread: Quick Poll

Pasternack's name was mentioned assuming that UNO continued its early success all season. Kind of silly to think that I would expect UL to hire a coach that doesn't enjoy some amount of success. A division title/conference championship/NCAA Tournament berth would definitely add to his appeal. I think UNO has a strong shot at making a run this season given the talent he has assembled. Time will tell.

As for the Southland, Stephen F Austin's Danny Kasper is more proven and a more likely candidate - and not just because he and I both attended the same high school. I think he would be a tremendous option.

Should he be considered if things go well, sure. But I don't think he will be. Also, Dixon would not stay if Pasternack were hired just saying. The coach at Nicholls almost won the SouthlAnd last year with even less resources and fan support, plus he won 20 games. Plus he beat UNO by 20. Maybe we should hire him???? In all seriousness though Josh, the Southland is flooded with great coaches what do u think of those options. Marlin, Kaspar, Thompson

How is Champagne doing at North Alabama this season? I presume he is still there. I know he generally has had success in recent seasons there. Do you expect him to apply if we have an opening?

Tim Floyd. Taking the motto of many here, winning would mean everything for this basketball program to revitalize and that is what is most important. That being said, I think that Floyd brings the best of both worlds of coaching wits and a solid recruiting base. He comes with baggage but he can out scheme many and would automatically upgrade our talent. To me, its a no brainer. However, I would understand also going with the safer bet in Butch Pierre.

You don't want a former UNO coach who has coached at the highest levels with success but you want a former North Alabama coach? I know he is local but at this level, local doesn't matter. This is not a hotbed of basketball talent and we need somebody who can recruit regionally rather than just locally. Sure, having relationships in the community helps generate excitement with the fans and local businesses but so does bringing in a quality coach from outside as well.

Wait--Coach Lee is local and is/was very well liked and had many years of coaching experience at both levels!!!!

Just cause his record at UNA is 4-4 doesnt mean that guy cant coach... If you were a good high school player capable of playing college ball and would make your decision of playing for UL for these reasons; to play for a good coach you could respect, will always keep it real with you and be honest at all times, knows the game and how to coach the game, then you would to play for Bobby, Oh yea and his brother is the coach at Lee Junoir College, constant hot bed of JUCO players every year. I really think this would be the best route for our school to take... _

Because basketball is a sport that we feel we could go out and get a guy who is not only known by the local community but regionally or possibly even nationally to a smaller degree. We have great facilities here and enough tradition to possibly lure a qualified coach here. I think the list could be expanded to other highly qualified coaches that have had more success than the previously mentioned candidates. I know a lot of people think highly of Champagne but if he was that good, he'd be in a bigger and better place by now. No thanks.

I also do not agree with the local talent assessment. We have had a serious decline in local talent over the years and if you want a coach that can mainly recruit locally, we're in trouble. I would be in favor of going the top assistant route like we did back when we got Evans. I think that was a good move and I'd be in favor of that before a guy like Champagne to be honest. Pierre would be an intriguing hire but you do have to wonder why he has never gotten a more serious look at the head spot after all of these years.

A Division 2 school with a 4 and 4 record now is likely to have a good season. Often, many of those early games for non D1 schools are payday games on the road. North Alabama has gone far in the Division 2 playoffs under Champagne in previous seasons.

The next head coach here will be someone with head coaching experience in all probability. That does not mean assistants should not apply. It is just that the philosophy of those making the hire is different than last time we had to make such decisions.

Understood, However if we could bring in a top assistant from another basketball powerhouse, would you not give them as much consideration as a Bobby Champagne or Butch Pierre? This is why I chose Tim Floyd if given the choice.
