NBA rules allow the Pels to pay him more than any other team can. That is the case for the first major contract you sign after your rookie deal. That along with his fondness for the area will cause him to sign the extension. He also has an appreciation for his coach so I don't expect Monty Williams to be released after the season. Only way that happens is if they have a losing record and they only need 7 more wins for a winning year. I know some of you don't listen to Scott Prather much. However he occasionally discusses the Pelicans and his insight into the organization is as higher than anyone in the area and generally exceeds even the New Orleans media.
The last few weeks have just been a season saver, even if they dont make the playoffs. The job they did without AD, Jrue, and Ryno. Now they'll have to do it without Tyreke. Terrible luck with injuries but hopefully Jrue is back soon
NOLA supports the Pels very well. Crowds are always loud.
AD is a great fit for the city. Great face of the franchise.
I'm not convinced that Monty is the right guy. I know that they have played with a ton of injuries, especially last year when they would have made the playoffs in the East but man some of his decisions are baffling!
Pelicans were idle this evening, but moved into the 8th playoff spot in the West by a half game when the Thunder lost to Clippers.
The important stat there is that OKC now has an equal amount of loses to the Pelicans. I view half game leads and such as valid except you can never make up a loss the other team has to accommodate.
OKC will come back like a wild fire with Durant finally coming back.
I agree that OKC will likely finish strong as they get the reigning MVP back be in about a week and a half. Pelicans also have some tough road trips out west coming up. However, the Pelicans do own the tiebreaker with OKC as they won three of the four games the two teams played this season.
