Let's compare apples to apples, we are 16-12 against D1 opponents. I want whoever coaches here to win, but let's not kid ourselves non D1 teams should not be used to pad a schedule.

The most disappointing this about this 16-12 record is that we should be 20-8 against D1 programs. No way should we have dropped 2 games against South Al, McNeese or NwSt.

GSU is 22-9 and has zero chance of an at large bid. No team in the SBC can be worthy of an at large bid, important value for seeding, with more than one possibly two regular season losses in conference, and a great non conference season. Probably no more than three loses all told.

For those who are too young to understand what it feels like to have a great team, just think of our softball program every year, and baseball last year, only multiply the exposure by a factor of ten.

With that said I'm not so sure Long will stick around. It's going to be a tough decision for him.
I hope we get better next year... but "I don't know". If Long sticks around I think we'll win over 20 games next year... but "I don't know". With that said... "I don't know" if Long will stick around... and "I don't know" if it will be a tough decision for him. "I just don't know"... because when it comes to things that "I don't know"... I admit it... and I read, watch and listen to smart people everywhere I can find them... so that I too can know.

You can try to discount back to back twenty win seasons all you want. They are still back to back twenty win seasons.

Your point is real. Ga. St. isn't going anywhere unless they win the tournament. And, in this league, 26-5 will get you to the same place it will in CUSA....the NIT IF you've won the regular season championship.

Therefore let's just win these three so the sourpusses can discount back to back NCAA appearances.

    And they will.

I may be pretty young but I don't recall any team Evan's put on the court that would have received an at large bid. So this great team must have been around decades ago.

If Marlin secures back to back tourney appearances, his critics will have very little ammo in their assault of him. Our program isn't where we would like it to be but it's moving in the right direction. Maybe it's not happening fast enough for some folks but I sure do like the future on this squad.

Currently ESPN RPI for LTU and Ga State are within shouting distance of a at large. Ga State nine loses, and LTU seven. Both have loses that are considered bad, and one of those loses is to a team named Louisiana.

Surprise, surprise, we are no. 150, the very essence of mediocre and center of a three hundred team 1A division. Well a little better as there has been an expansion to 351. And of course Louisiana is represented there as well Grambling State the worst program in division I.

Also at #326 UNO, where is Tim Floyd when you need him?

As I run back the tapes on the numerous comments made over the past few years regarding our men's basketball program, I find that both positions on the extreme end of opinion make some valid points. The only thing I question is why we insult our program when they're winning - and still have a chance at postseason play. I understand everyone's opinions.

I don't think Mike intended to push the program's critics into making sure we all know the limits of how excited we should be. He didn't crown the program. He used certain facts to look at the accomplishments as of late - after all, the players and coaches cannot change the past or who we schedule in basketball - and gave an applause for that effort. And the fact that our team improved in the latter stages of the season - even given that winning the conference is the only big payoff - they are building up to that possibility - and we should all be wanting winning to continue.

That said, I think if I were on the more critical side of Marlin and this program... I wouldn't even comment right now.

I admit to being one of the naysayers last month. That being said I am very impressed with this team's 6 game winning streak regardless of quality of opponents. Instead of folding like a tent, the Cajuns began playing defense making their season respectable. We are peaking at the right time. Let's go win in NOLA next weekend!
