Well, just don't be surprised if a MAC team decides to stay home. It might not matter what the head coach wants if the president and AD say it's not going to happen. Those are the people that will be making the final decisions.

Badgers and Longhorns win helped alot tonight. The fact of the matter is there will probably be 4 open bowl slots, Humanitarian is selling out to get UCLA, and the feeling is mutual, UCLA wants to lose as little money as possible. that leaves Bowling Green, MT, and NIU to fill the GMAC, Pizza Bowl, and Emerald bowl. 2 of those bowls already have MAC schools, leading me to believe the MAC at large goes to either Bowling Green or NIU in Emerald bowl and the MAC will push the other to stay home as to not look small time and have a conference game as a "bowl game".
Something did come into my head though...wouldn't it be poetic justice if we go bowling this year after the whole independence bowl fiasco last year and NIU (The team that took our spot because of a butt-hugger who works in their front office) stays home with a winning record.
NIU wouldn't get left out because they wanted to, more like they would have their arm twisted into staying home. I was gonna grab a link on the NIU NCAABBS board, but apparently something is wrong with there server. Look up their thread about the hum. bowl and read their comments, looks like there's something there if even their own fans are talking that way.
A team can have all the wins it wants, but the school's administration would have to support a bowl trip for it to happen. If the school doesn't think the payout is enough to justify the trip, then it will simply opt out and the next team will get a shot.
We will see what happens in about 12 hours after Hawaii lost last night/early this morning.

You guys need to stop torturing yourselves. We don't deserve a bowl game and if some bowl was stupid enough to ask we should say no. We will not bring the fans nor the team to make it worth our wild. I want a bowl game badder than anyone but not this way.
At some point you want to be able to say you have "been to 5 straight bowls" or able to hear "they have been to a bowl 4 of the last 6 years." At that point no one will remember if you were 6-6 in the first one.
There is simply no bad way ("this way") to get into a bowl game. "Worth our while" has payments indefinitely not just this year.
Does anyone know if the UL Admin has got any calls or has made any calls to Lobby a bowl game?
I spoke to one of the Coaches last night and all he said was "they were trying as hard as they could to get us in". I think they learned from last year that it takes politics and lobbying your team to get into games. Not sure if we will still get in, but I think we definitely learned a lot about the bowl process from last year's bowl fallout.
