What if a slot in the St. Pete Bowl opens up, with Pitt narrowly beating Cincy ?
St. Pete has a secondary tie-in with SBC, and reportedly MT HC Stockstill would love to play in Florida (in front of the Fla recruits).
Does that knock out Boise from the BCS, and send them to Mobile ?
This could trigger a mess, but maybe Cincy will fall out of the BCS picture.
I was wondering that too, but as I started thinking, it started to make sense. The reason we don't want the Texas bowl open is we want humanitarian open as they will likely pull out all stops to get UCLA there. If the option is Texas, its not as likely that UCLA will go there, UCLA might choose to go to eaglebank or Pizza bowl, which is bad for us because both of those are against MAC teams already I believe, meaning that if an "at large" MAC team were to go, it would be a Mac v. Mac Matchup, which is REALLY not wanted by bowl comittees, and would be bad for the MAC, thus why they would rather choose to not go to a bowl, than go to a bowl and essentially have a late season conference game.
MT fans were for Cincy to win.
Now we need Boise and Texas to win.
If a MAC team pulls out, doesn't that automatically put the Cajuns in the bowl picture ?
It puts us squarely in the bowl picture if the MAC keeps one home, and Hawaii and Navy lose, we need BOTH to lose for us to have a legit chance. Today is all about Texas and Wisconsin for cajun fans, and frankly should be for the conference, because it would be the first time ever that 3 belt send 3 teams to bowl games. A huge step forward as only a few years ago we were worried about having a bowl eligible team, heck our first year, we had a team with a losing record go to a bowl game, we would now have 3 teams not only eligible, but going to games.
Bowls aren't going to set up a MAC vs MAC matchup. Will never happen because it won't sell tickets. The MAC might turn down a bid due to financial concerns. The conference will lose money playing in the EagleBank and Humanitarian Bowls as an at-large. Bowling Green is the school I keep hearing that might sit it out.

Updated SI.com has UCLA in the H-Bowl.
Could Cajuns go to Detroit, instead of BGSU ?

They might as well go ahead and make that game an SBC tie-in.
