The beginning of the end for all other state schools named not LSU-Baton Rouge.
How much will this save the State?

Unbelievable, yet not. Intellectual flight out of Louisiana has occured for a long time now. This will only serve to increase the rate. LSU will pick up 10% more Acadiana-based academic standouts destined for UL, and some truly academically excellent out of state schools will pick up the other 90%. Wonderful.
Well folks, I tried to explain why UL must increase our "political authority" via athletics. LSU saw that UL baked an extra academic biscuit or two... our brilliant administration thought they were "outsmarting" everyone... and little did he/they know... the larger your state footprint... largely defined by athletics programs... the more political authority you have.
But, we were pure academians on a mission from Einstein. We dismissed that the average man and woman in Louisiana's general opinion of a university is nearly completely tied to its athletic prowess. It is similar to looking at your kid's tennis shoe size and "thinking" - wow, they're "growing up". Perhaps all they have is a really big foot... but perception is a powerful tool. The assumption of growth and size comes from visual recognition first. Our intellectual masters decided that you could cultivate the skull matter and allow the body to remain frail. No punches were even thrown... none returned. LSU simply cut our head off.

They've cut 217 programs since January. I understand eliminating duplication and waste, in most cases. But at some point, somebody needs to address the bigger picture. Louisiana Higher Ed is like an old house infested with rodents and pests, that someone is trying to restore. The only problem is that they're only putting out roach poison and wondering why they still have rats.

A "state higher education review panel"? Who exactly is on this panel, and what authority do they have?
This is old news. Look at the date on the article. What we discussed a week or two ago was the board part of this approved measure. Remember when Wharton was trying to goad Steve Landry into a battle between us and State a few weeks back. Nothing has changed since then.

Can you provide a link? I didnt see an article this week. Because the link at the top of this page is the same story as the one in my link. Read the opening article in my link.
The state’s public colleges — especially regional universities —may have their academic degree programs scaled back, based on recommendations approved Tuesday by a state higher education review panel.
Maybe instead of trying to "take the high road" and refusing to confront Wharton, Dr. Landry and UL's suporters need to get down in the gutter with Wharton and fight back. Instead of remaining silent maybe we need to lay out some facts to show what our resources are and what is being accomplished with those resources and then ask for a comparison of State's resources and what they are accomplishing. Show that UL is providing a bang for the buck.
There is no guarantee, given the politcal history in this state, that fighting back will allow UL to come out on top. But I can guarantee that remaining passive and silent is a sure road to defeat.
