Thread: Coaching Staff

  1. UL Football Coaching Staff

Now that we know the outcome of the "will Ricky return" show, how do you all feel or think may happen internally with the coaching staff. Will Bustle retain all the coaches or will he make changes at the DC or OC jobs and those below each. I feel we need to make some moves which would put the players we have into a better position to perform successfully. You cannot fit a square peg into a round hole, but that is what seems to be happening. Lets give our guys a chance by putting them into a situation that highlights their individual talents.
    Just some thoughts..........

I agree that changes need to be made somewhere. We just sat through an entire season of playing a pocket passer in a spread option offense.

Recruiting has to change...this to me is the biggest concern.

I don't see any staff changes coming. One of his excuses is that Walker made him fire his whole staff in 2007 and essentially "start over". These guys are all coming back... sigh.

I agree. We need a RB (Rob Walker will help here), a couple play makers on the outside other than Marlin Miller, and most of all DL that can stop the run.

I agree with you on this but by me saying recruiting has to change, i mean our entirr stratagy on it. We are missing out on a lot of guys who will help this program and that has to change. I understand we will miss on a lot of guys bc of our inconsistent ways on the field...we are inconsistent however due to our lack of recruiting.

These coaches need to get into every school in this state and build relationships with the coaches. Florida and texas need to be recruited but to much talent is leaving the state and will continue to leave unless more focus is put into this area. Better relationships with JUCO's will help lead more talent to us as well. Am i an expert no but to me this is common sense when it comes to recruiting. Keep your local guys home and go out and grab a few gems from outside.

Absolutely. This staff has got to do a better job recruiting especially players on Defense.

Bingo! The worst part is we had [and have] not one but TWO spread option QBs on the team. Our problems at RB, by the way, stem largely from our QB play, and are not really a reflection of either the RBs or the OL. If you think otherwise, you just do not understand the Zone Read option. With our current QB at the helm, in this offense, Tyrell Fenroy would have been an average back.

We have an entire offense built around the Zone Read option, we recruit to it, our OLs are zone read guys, our RBs are zone read guys. We can't just stick in a pocket passer and expect everything to work. It ain't happening.

At this point, I don't think we will see any change. Our only hope was an entire new coaching staff starting with the head coach. I like Rickey Bustle, I respect him for what he has done, and he doesn't deserve to be personally bashed in any way. However, I thought we really needed a change in direction for our program, and I let the AD, and asst. AD know my position, but it is all water under the bridge now, we have at least 1 more year of this coaching staff. In my opinion, we have seen the best of what Coach Bustle can do with our team. That is it. We are not going to all of a sudden see some great tactic come out of nowhere. We have seen his recruiting, which I don't think is good enough for us to win consistently. We are stagnant for the next year, and that really ____es me off. I thought our new Pres. would make a statement, a difference, give us a new direction. But no, it looks like he is more of the same. At this point, I'm not happy, but what else is new in Cajun Athletics.

Don't you think McGuire is a better fit at QB in that offense and, for that matter, Gauthier? This may have been a poor coaching decision to not start him from the beginning. With McGuire as the option qb and an equal passer to Masson, he would likely have been more effective this year. That might have been the difference in a couple of more wins this year.

Wingerter and Bustle are the only constants in recruiting. Bustle needs to hire a special teams coach and hit the road recruiting like his assistants.

Troy is a great salesman, but he is not a closer. He can not lock down recruits and has to rely on other coaches to do so. He loves this program, but he is not the right guy for recruiting IMO.
