What an arm.
What an arm.
Yes he can pass and so can McGuire.
Nothing against Masson but I just hope the last fall practice (next year) isn't closed so the coach can say "Hey look who is the best." and to prove his point doesn't let the 1b quarterback throw a pass in what seemed like forever.

From what I've been told about Gauthier, he prefers to throw first. Before the Troy game it looked like the play calling him to just run was taking him a bit out of his comfort zone.

I like him and I think he could be the QB of the future, esecially if there is a coaching change. I have always thought he was the most talented of the group, but I just don't think he was ready (mentally) this season.
I hope he will hang in and perhaps get a shot next season.
I think gauthier gives us the best chance to win I've been saying that since we got here. Our O-line is not good enough at protecting the quarterback to have a QB who can't scramble. How many times this year did masson drop back and look at one receiver and then get sacked because he just stood in a collapsing pocket?

I don't care who the coach is next year, if gauthier and rob walker are starting we're gonna win some games

That's a valid point. I do look forward to the QB battle next year... and Blaine will definitely be in the running this time. He looked solid Saturday night. There is a big difference in coming in late with nothing to lose versus having to own the entire 60 minutes... but I think he will be ready this next season. We shall see.
I too cannot wait to see what Rob Walker has to offer.
But, like you said, if we don't get better on defense, we are still going to be battling for .500 no matter what the offense does. We also have to get better special teams play. The special teams letdown on Saturday surprised me the most (despite having been poor most of the season). Our defense could not contain Jernigan/Brown and that did not surprise me. But, we had massive unforced errors on special teams... in the 12th game of the season. That was hard to excuse.
Very true. The problem with this defense is that it is not physical enough, especially on the DL. This defense was very up and down this year and it all began and ended with the DL play. They are so crucial to keeping the OL from reaching that secondary level and getting into their blocks of the LB's. It also helps to have DL who can actually pass rush the QB especially without the assistance of the blitz which then creates mismatches in the secondary. If these guys can improve this offseason, we could be very solid next year with the best returning secondary in the SBC and possibly the best LB's as well. They have the size but they need to provide the ferocious pass rush and run stopping ability that all good defenses have.
I also look forward to seeing Robert play and appreciate what he has done this year in getting himself ready to play next year. However, he hasn't played one down on the collegiate level as of right now so I think that any lofty expectations should be tempered until he hits the field.
