Thread: Last Nights Intensity

  1. UL Football Last Nights Intensity

From top to bottom coaches to players, the intensity UL brought to the Troy game was something special and I have no doubt victory was only a bounce, a call, a break away from happening

I know their (coaches) backs were to the proverbial wall and that had something to do with the intensity level, but it was still special and fun to watch.

That being said if the level I saw last night was evident over the entire season UL would have a 9-3 record.

Agreed. 8-4 at a minimum...and 4 quarters against MTSU could have ended in a different outcome, too.

Totally agree - throw in the improvement in play calling and better utilization of the 2 qb's and who knows

2 QBs? How about 3? I was super impressed with Gauthier's play last night. Yeah he came into the game when it really was "un-winnable", to a certain extent. But he made some fine athletic plays, showed a rocket for an arm, and great touch on the run.

I would be worried about next season already if I am Masson or McQuire. This is another bright spot and a good problem to have.

I was also impressed with Gauthier. He showed some poise in stepping up away from the rush while still focusing on completing passes, his arm looked very strong and accurate, and when he did run he was able to avoid some tackles and pick up some yardage. He definately was a bright spot. A little something to look forward to.

For the most part, I was very pleased with the play calling as it was a lot more aggressive than it was all year long and we appeared to use the tight ends appropriately. The only thing that bothers me is why the coaching staff didn't do this all year long. In my opinion, last year ended the same way. The coaches put together a great game plan against MTSU for the last game of the year, but that coaching wasn't present the rest of the year. I truly believe this coaching staff has taken us as far as they can, and I sincerely thank them for that, but it is time for a change.

I agree that the team played hard last night. However, one reason the play calling was better than it was in the three last road games was due to having McGuire and Green available. They did not play in any of those. We win at FIU if those guys are there. Last night's critical play was the illegal formation penalty. I don't know if the call was correct or not but Coach Bustle seemed disturbed by it in today's paper. If the play stands, we are at the Troy 25 with the lead and momentum. After we punted, we lost control and Troy basically dominated the fourth quarter. I agree with Turbine that the kids left it all on the field.

Injuries are a part of the game. Those injuries that you mentioned should not have affected the play calling. This has been a problem Bustle's entire tenure.

The guys played great last night, I enjoyed the comeback tremdeously and wish we could have kept it. A couple of thoughts / notes from last night:

    1. I wish we would have tried to score with 54secs and 3 times outs left before half time.

    2. Instead of buying the Rent-a-cop University Police 3-wheeled segways use that money for something useful!! Did anyone else see those things last night? I could never take any type of officer (fake UP or real cops) seriously on one of those things.

I have always wanted to ask Bustle how much time does he need on the clock in order to try and move it down field at the end of a half.

I have never seen him attemt anything under :30 but for some reason I was still surprised to see no attempt with :54
