  1. UL Basketball Lee doesn't hide from upset

The UL men's basketball program, which fell to 10-20 last season, hit a new low Tuesday night with a 68-64 loss to NAIA University of Mobile in the Cajundome.

Instead of being 2-1 for the first time since the 2004-05 season, the Ragin' Cajuns (1-2) lost to a non-NCAA Div-ision I team for the first time in 33 years, according to the school's media guide.

Head coach Robert Lee said after the loss that UL's just "not a very good basketball team right now" going into Saturday's game at McNeese State (1-4).

Geez coach, you called it there. You have no inside presence AT ALL. So what do you do when you play 10-11 players with almost all of them as SG and SF's? You play an uptempo, pressing, trapping game that puts tons of pressure on the ball and hopefully utilizes your team speed and athleticism as an advantage and puts you in a transition mode. Guess what? You can even do this in a half court set such as half court traps using the four corners of the half court as defenders and trapping the ball. You can run match up zones and 1-3-1 zones to neutralize your size disadvantage while putting your players in favorable rebounding positions as lord knows they need all the help they can get. However, this is all for nothing considering your players don't like to practice, loaf around on the court at all times, have no discipline and the team's overall character rates up there with a welfare recipient's will to work....Ok, sarcasm over......

Why would he hide from the loss? Nothing is going to happen to him. I say the Cajuns beat McNeese and LSU on the road, and Tulane at home, or Robert Lee is GONE. Is that to much to ask? According to the coach at LSU we have the best talent in Louisiana! It's time for our coach to step up and act like a real division one coach.

It would be cool if he did go into hiding though. Just don't show up for games or practice anymore.

does this loss really surprise anyone? Sure, if they played again today, cajuns could win by 30 or they could lose again. Worst coach in the nation means terribly inconsistent and underperming at amazing levels.

I am late getting this news because I have no idea when Cajuns are even playing basketball games anymore. Like many fans, used to care a lot and would try to listen to games even while living in other countries and parts of US, but the Lee years have made it impossible to really care.

I have been saying Lee is the worst coach in the nation since his second year. Not sure if Cajuns basketball can ever come back to where it was before, a program that had winning history and a lot of pride. One coaching regime may have ruined that for a long long time. Of course the university did not help things by allowing this nonsense to continue for years.

Sadly, it doesn't truly shock me to see this result and yet it reaffirms my point that he truly is not a good coach. I'd rather go to the cajundome and watch a bad team with an interim head coach for the rest of the year than watch him try to lead this team in a lame duck year which is what he is because even he has to know that he won't make it past this year.

If Lee would be fired during the season, I would buy my season tickets back.

If this team embarrasses itself in these next two games again why not let Lee go and give Lebato a shot for the rest of the season? He is the godfather of one of the most talented players on the team and the former high school coach of another. Hopefully at least those two would want to play hard for him.

Hell, if you fire Lee I'd volunteer for the rest of the year. I couldn't do any worse and I promise, I have a serious talent for accumulating entertaining technical fouls that would at least entertain the crowd.
