We'll we on diff ends of the spectrum. It would be no diff if it were lsu/bama or whoever. Bottom line is we had no mental toughness to get the job done 3,4,5 times when we could of won the game. Idc if it were the Yankees in the other dugout. We weren't good enough last night....too many mental and physical errors
This… I can deal with mistakes being made, but the errors and mental errors that may not show up on the scoreboard are frustrating for sure… We took last year's team for granted because besides the obvious pitching and hitting dominance, they did all the little things that often go unnoticed, right… hitting behind runners, making all the sacrifices, not striking out in crucial situations when all you need to do is put the ball in play… So many things that don't have a stat associated with it, they just did it last year
I think we all understand that "baseball is baseball"... Lose any given night etc.. Robe said beforehand this team would have some growing pains. And he was right. I just expected it to be with pitching, not fielding/hitting/or mental toughness. Tony will start throwing out the "soft" word if these guys don't watch it.
2ER in 18 innings? I think the pitchers did their jobs. And 1 got charged the Leger and I didn't think he had any.
It surely isn't a season make or break but I saw some very discouraging things. Body language says a lot, and they had plenty of hanging heads. I think we will struggle with leadership which is hard to replace. We have been pretty much bad on the bases for 8 games. Playing almost 2 full games in the cold heading on the road in the cold and using your 2 best relievers for that long on a midweek game can come back to bite you. You gotta think we could have used those extended outings this weekend because most likely 1 of our starters will run into trouble at some point. It was the experienced guys making bonehead plays, we should have won that game 7-2 easily. Gunner gets a frickin triple laced off him in the 1st then comes back to get out of the inning with no harm and davis drops the throw from a strikeout. That's the game right there. That's not protecting your guy. Hopefully they learn from it. 4 games until conference and we start with a good team in Troy, gotta get this stuff cleaned up.
It's funny how folks can have different opinions on the same play, but I blamed the catcher for soft tossing the throw. I think it's easier for a first baseman to scoop a hard low throw than some soft toss that you don't know how it's going to bounce. Every other throw to first from the catcher after that was fired. U mean first ball...not strike
Good point about leadership. Hopefully it will develop quickly. We got spoiled with a club full of leaders last year. Hopefully the seniors will step up. Looking at you Shugg
