Marlin thought a TxSt player stepped out of bounds and he was demonstrating how far out of bounds. The official wasn't looking where he was going and ran into Marlin, knocking him down and then called a tech because Bob was on the court. Marlin was, as you know, apoplectic. After looking at the monitor they rescinded the tech and made it a coaches box warning.
It's the first time in all my years covering basketball I've ever seen a technical foul rescinded.
The official is Ray Acosta who I think is the worst official in the Sun Belt. It's not the first time I've publicly criticized him. A few years ago in Bowling Green, he was one of the officials who couldn't count to five. I've been complaining to the league about Acosta for 3-4 years now.
Oh, That's the Ref you was railling on. I got out of work late and got to the game late but was listen to the first half on the radio on the way there. I was ready to drop some caustic _____ on him but the game was already out of hand when I got there so I'll save it for the tourney.
There was a series of possessions that looked very sloppy. I think we had 5 or 6 possessions in a row that ended in missed layups or turnovers. TS killed us on the offensive boards. Without their put backs we would have held them to under 35 points. Playing hard and playing smart are two different things. Last nights effort beats the bottom half of the sunbelt but not the upper half. TS missed several easy shots that others would have made. To me it is win conference championship or go home. I see little chance of two sunbelt teams getting into the dance. Maybe you are hearing post season talk but if we don't make finals of sunbelt I think even the NIT is out. Trust me, I will be ecstatic if they prove me wrong.
Good effort by the team last night and a much needed win. Let's face it though, while the Cajuns have talent, they are not a very good team. Texas State was terrible and that has more to do with the lopsided score than the Cajuns play.
Was pleasantly surprised with the crowd and effort last night. Tx St was bad. They may not be a bad team, but that performance was brutal.
When Marlin hit the deck, the CajunDome had a strange "don't touch our guy" energy too it. It was really an odd experience. It felt like all 4k ppl were going to ascend on Acosta, the worst official I've ever seen in any collegiate sport.
