Thread: Rogers expects UL to take major step

  1. UL Basketball Rogers expects UL to take major step

In the mind of Errol Rogers, last season's struggles for the UL women's basketball team will pay off with better results this season.

At least that's what the third-year coach hopes will happen.

Coming off a 3-27 campaign and 0-18 showing in Sun Belt Conference play, the Ragin' Cajuns look for a new beginning as they open the regular season at 5 p.m. Saturday against Texas Southern in the Cajundome.

UL, picked to finish last in the Sun Belt's West Division, will have some experience this season with all five starters and 11 letterwinners coming back. That's a big difference from last season when the Cajuns had one player with more than two years in the NCAA Division I ranks and eight newcomers.

The only major step UL women's BB will make with Rogers at the helm will be the day he gets fired. The only reason they won't make a major step BACKWARD this year is there is no place to go to get worse.

Per a post today on another thread, Coach Hall is waiting for what he hopes will be his final coaching destination. Sure would like to see him back here with the right comparable salary.

We deserve better than a Hall Retirement Plan.

What is this B-ball crap. We got to teach the Trojans a lesson then go bowling. Then we can worry about the rest. Troy are not the Saints. They are beatable.

I didn't bring up Hall's name ... BUT ... I fail to understand how you feel we 'deserve' better than Hall. All he did was take a UL program that was not only not on life support, it was lying in the morgue with a tag on it's toe, and turn it into a two time SBC Western Division Champion; not to mention getting an AT LARGE bid to the NCAA tournament, something the vaunted men's program has never done, to my knowledge.

But thank you for your input anyway, Mrs. Rogers.

It would be great to have JKH back.....problem is, if we are interested in bringing him back..... if we wait too long....he might not be around...

Do you have inside information? I would love to have JKH back, not only was he a very good coach, he was fan friendly.

I know I had numerous email conversations with Coach Hall and he was so thankful to the Cajun fans and support. I would take him back in a heartbeat. Can you believe just a few short years ago we were 25-9? WTF!!!!

    Funny.

25 wins was fun but even Hall knew it would take a lot of smoke and mirrors to sneak up on teams the following year. No doubt he would be a breath of fresh air for how ever long he might stay. I want a keeper that will put UL on the map to stay. That's what we deserve.

He didn't have any trouble sneaking up on 25 teams his last year after winning 20 the year before. You act like JKH had one fluke year with 25 wins surrounded by a lot of failure. NOT the case at all. Would he have won 20 the following year? Who knows? He wasn't here, he didn't recruit for that year, etc... I can flat out guarantee you he would have won more than Rogers did, and that even if there was a slight dip, it would have been to 16-18 or so wins, then back up the following year.
