TYRELL FENROY DAY in Comet Country Friday

On Friday, November 13, St. Charles Catholic High School will honor one of the most well known graduates in the school's history, Tyrell Fenroy. He took high school football by storm, setting many records and winning several awards. Fenroy then carried it over to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL), where he broke several records and became one of the premiere running backs in the nation.

As a member of SCC's varsity football team, Fenroy made his mark on not only the school, but the state as well. During his career as a Comet, he caught 29 passes for 540 yards. When returning kickoffs, Fenroy compiled 854 yards in only 21 total returns. He rushed for an astounding 4,320 yards while at SCC. He ended his tenure with a combined 5,714 all-purpose yards. Fenroy averaged 10 yards each of his 571 attempts with possesion of the football. His favorite place on the field was the end zone, reaching it 82 times in his mind-blowing high school career, alone scoring 492 points for the Comets.

Over-looked by many colleges, Fenroy was given a chance to play for the UL Rajun Cajuns. As amazing as his high school career was, his college career proved to be more prolific. Fenroy caught 60 passes for 585 yards. He also ran for 4,642 yards in 808 attempts, averaging 5.75 yards per carry. In his four years as a Cajun, Fenroy rushed for more than 1,000 yards per year becoming only the 7th player in NCAA history to achieve this feat.

As a freshman in 2005, he was voted as a Second Team All-Conference player in the Sun-Belt Conference. The following three years, he was voted First Team All-Conference. During his senior season, Fenroy was named the Sun-Belt Conference Player of the Year. Additionally he was named a semi-finalist for the Doak Walker Award, which is awarded to the best running back in the country. Fenroy holds the all-time rushing record for UL, the Sun-Belt Conference, and the state of Louisiana. UL honored Fenroy by retiring his jersey, an honor saved for players who successfully complete a four-year career at the collegiate level. The Sun-Belt Conference named Fenroy the Conference’s Offensive Player of the Decade (2000-2009).


Fenroy will be known for his accomplishments as a Rajun Cajun and a Comet. He has left a mark not only on the state of Louisiana but the country, through his dedication and hard work on the turf. SCC is privileged to declare November 13 as Tyrell Fenroy day in Comet Country in recognition for his contributions to football and the Comet family.
