Who would have thought this year men's basketball is our worse performing sport? At a time we are trying to move up to a better conference, this surely doesn't help. Fortunately, football will primarily drive that. Still a sad state for our basketball program.

The way I look at it now is at what point is it cost effective to move on? It is obvious after 5 years that Marlin isn't the guy. So he has what 3 or 4 years left on his contract? Is it worth the dwindling support and lack of interest to keep him for the remainder of his contract? Pay the buyout, hire a dynamic, young top flight assistant from a program that mirrors what made UL successful? The boost in attendance and donations could offset the buyout.

2 winning seasons in 10 years ain't cutting it fellas. Even if we finish above .500 this season we will have more non winning seasons in this 10 year span than we did between 1972-2004. Think about that for a minute! Let it sink in, in one 10 year time frame we have essentially self imposed the death penalty. Even worse imo, stagnation and apathy have set in and it is now acceptable.

    Unreal.....

I do not think what is happening this year is acceptable to anyone and that includes the staff. Paying the buyout and bringing someone new in is not being considered in anyway by anyone in administration so I don't see the point in discussing it. Now if we are just as frustrated as we are now in 12 months, the remaining buyout may be affordable and there will be lots of pressure on the administration. I am not going to automatically assume that we will be in this same mindset in 12 months. I will take a wait and see attitude. I completely understand however the skepticism that will occur due to past history. As far as this year's team is concerned, I would be surprised with any type of significant turnaround due to confidence and leadership issues.

Mike, his salary is an albatross on the program only if you think a better, more exciting coach would not sell more tickets, thus a smaller deficit on the athletic budget. Loss of revenue should always supersede the fixed cost of a contract that is not performing.

As for discussion? Since when is anything here being discussed here known by Farmer, who we all know does not read this board, so all discussions are in effect pointless except to exorcising our demons.

----Now if I am correct he was fired at LTUR and I really didn't know who he was the first time I saw him coach at UL----I was just really impressed with all he did--got his butt beat I think but was an extremely in the game coach----Again there are countless personalities and styles, but I liked what he brought to the game---Not really a handsome guy however!!!

It will take a lot more than UL to lure him away from ULMost. It is his alma mater, and he is not likely to get a bigger gig.

It has never been the case of whether Scott reads this forum. This forum influences every single word spoken near the ear of Scott and T-Joe regarding UL athletics. So, Mike's point is valid. When the time comes (next year at this time) and we're displeased, the forum will influence actions. Right now, all of the angst expressed is just expressing angst. No action will be taken. The economics of lost revenues versus buyout will create the tipping point next year... not this year.
