Is Herrington hurt? I seem to remember that he and BT were the only locks in Jay's season preview.

We have to replace our entire weekend starting pitching and several positions on the field. There is a huge tradition associated with this program and that is exactly why recruiting has been so good last Spring and this past Fall. Tony has a lot of talent to work with and I am comfortable that he will come up with the goods. He knows what he is doing. This Season is the type where the fans will have to be patient and lets things play out and fall into place.
5 runs on 12 hits should win the game. Should have score more but didn't have timely hits. It's going to take a while to see who the weekend starter will be. We knew pitching would be a problem. Offense is gonna do fine. We'll be ok.
Well I take my view from Robe. He said several things that indicated this is not LAST year. HE said last year we lost our game by one to nothing and tonight not that. He said we have to button down the hatches because last year we had a much strong hitting team that could overcome some of those open hatches.
Pitching? The starter tonight appears to be about where he was last year, good for a few innings. The bull pen pretty much mimicked their numbers from last year. I am telling you we better hope the next two pitchers are a lot better than those we saw tonight, they were raw meat last year and it appears they have not shown any improvement.
Robe also commented about opportunities for double plays, and an error. There will always be those incidents and the sampled is far too small to worry about it being what we can expect. Still the pitching last night is very similar to a much larger sample from last season after our three aces.
Robe must be forgetful-- we lost 5-1 opener last year..
I dont think Charp is our Friday guy. Possibly not even a starter,, he is really good for 3.. after that not sure he has the stamina. I really think Milhorn will be the Friday guy, I hope Guillory can be the Sat guy and Sunday- may have to be by commitee.
Bottom line-- I dont think you can draw large conclusions based on last night. Hitting was good, if not all that timely. Struggled against breaking balls but who doesnt? Made fewer errors than our our opponent. Mistakes are part of baseball and I think 2 errors on opening night is not unusual or un-predicted.
That one nothing game may have been the Bama game that I misrepresented as the first game of the season.
Well if Charp ain't Friday somebody gotta be Sunday.
Regardless the main thing he wanted to emphasize was we AIN'T the 2014 team and we cannot expect to be bailed out with BIG bats. Expect return to small ball, and defense. You need solid pitching for that.
