Thread: UL's Baseball Blackouts take the Series

  1. UL Baseball UL's Baseball Blackouts take the Series

The 15th Annual Fall World Series lasted only one day for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team as the Blackouts swept a doubleheader from the Red team Sunday afternoon at M.L. "Tigue' Moore Field by scores of 5-3 and 4-2.

As a result of the sweep, the Black team captured the best-of-three series. With the series coming to a close, the Ragin' Cajuns are now finished with fall practice for the 2009-10 season.

Chad Keefer stole the spotlight at the plate for the Black team. He completed the doubleheader 5-for-8 which included two doubles and a triple.

Leading the Red team offense was Lance Marvel who went 4-for-7 with two RBI. Kyle Bostick and Alex Fuselier each picked up three hits.

Pitcher Randall Bulliard collected a save in both games. The junior from Lafayette tossed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball. He induced two double plays and tallied three strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth in the nightcap.

Justin Robichaux (Black) bested Zach Osborne (Red) in the much anticipated game one matchup. Taylor Hubbell (Black) and T.J. Geith (Red) turned in quality starts in game two.

Joey Satriano was the top reliever as he held the Red team to only one hit over 3 2/3 innings pitched in the doubleheader.

Both squads played solid defense as only three errors were committed. The two teams combined to turn seven double plays.

Did anyone go to see this? If you did, how did they look?

All the talk about our school colors being red and white and get rid of the black. Then, our baseball team has black and red teams for fall ball. Why not red and white teams? There is so much inconsistency in what UL does that it is mind boggling. Did they go back to the whirlybird, dunce looking, tri-colored baseball caps too?

The red and black jerseys that were used for the world series are jerseys that the team has had for a couple of years for practice intrasquads and the fall world series. Maybe you could have bought them white jerseys just to use for 2 games for the fall world series.

Ok. I'll ask again. Did anyone go to see the fall world series? If you did, how did the teams/players PERFORM? There, now there should be no confusion as it appears my previous question wherein I asked, "How did they LOOK?", was construed as requesting a fashion update.

I was there for most the first game and the last third of the 2nd. There are some definite possibilities with this team. It was a split squad, so you didn't really get to see how a lineup would have looked as "first team", but Coach Robichaux should be feeling pretty good going into spring.

Thad Griffen hit one of the hardest and fastest homeruns I've ever seen at the Tigue. It went crashing into the pine trees in left center about 3/4's the way up the trees and didn't look like it wanted to stop. Granted, it's kind of all or nothing with him, but that was really impressive.

It really doesn't look like there's a whole lot of positions locked up for the season. A couple of JUCO guys, Lance Marvel and Trask Switzenburg, have great size and look like they'll push for starting spots. It should be a very interesting month before the season to find out how the depth chart will shake out

Pitching wise, Coach Robe thinks this is his strength. Justin and Osborne both looked pretty solid and Bulliard was pretty much lights out, picking up the save in both games.

Should be a fun season for the baseball team, and with so many home games to start the year, hopefully the Cajuns can get out to a fast start.

Thank you very much for the update.
