Thread: Budget-Ticket Price Correlation

    Default Budget-Ticket Price Correlation

This is a copy of the text of an email I received from the University of Oklahoma where I am currently enrolled in one of their online Master's programs.

YOUR SOONERS FOOTBALL TEAM NEEDS YOU!

Your OU Football team needs your support for this weekend's football game against Kansas State. Student tickets are available to any OU student with an OU student ID for $34 per ticket. You can purchase these tickets at the ground level of the Asp Avenue Parking Facility in the OU Athletics Ticket Office on the west side of the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Don't miss the Oklahoma Sooners take on the Big 12 North leading Kansas State Wildcats in this year's homecoming game at the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

The Athletics Ticket Office is open today until 5 p.m. and tomorrow from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Student guest tickets are also available for $79 per ticket.

Come support your SOONERS! Boomer Sooner!

It got me to start thinking about the relationship between ticket prices and athletic budget. I realize we cannot compare ourselves to a program like Oklahoma, but it is mind-boggling how much difference there is between ticket prices between UL and OU. Keep in mind that the prices listed are STUDENT TICKET PRICES!!! We at UL (especially students) are spoiled with the low cost to get into a football game.

And if the admin tries to raise prices a few bucks a large number of the same bunch that demands a winner and wants to know why we can't get this or that (including better coaches) will howl to the moon in protest. Having said that, I look forward to hearing the howls and wish the admin would raise ticket prices. Of course, in return the admin has to show they are serious about building a winning program in our lifetime.

Students get into the game... FREE!

Student escort tickets are $9... it costs more to go to an Icegators game.

I would be all for charging students $5 at least!

I'd say raise the student escort tickets to $12.

But then you go to win homecoming to achieve this...

When I first came to school here, I thought it was great that I would get into all the athletic events for free. I had always said in my first couple of years that once I graduated I'll be damned if I'll pay to see a UL football game.

Well, so much for that as I've graduated by now I've been to every single home game since.

I'm all for raising the prices so long as we can see some results. I've already seen a 100% increase in the cost of my ticket, and so long as we start to produce a consistant winner in the not so distant future (Like, you know, before I have grand kids or something); I don't mind paying more.

UL doesn't seem to know how to raise money. Everyone says we need higher salaries to recruit better coaches. I agree. If we had 1000 people through surrounding area businesses plus alumni to give $1,000.00 apiece per year, we'd have a $million to use each year. I would give a thousand in a heart beat if it was properly organized and was a dedicated program that brought results. I'll be darn if I'd give a penny to what's going on now except for tickets.

I'm a '74 grad and have not rec'd one piece of info regarding the RCAF. That is so typical of this Ath. Dept. They haven't got a clue.

I am not sure about how RCAF is being marketed but I went to RaginCajuns.com and did the registration.

I understand the frustration. But we don't have to wait for the admin to come to us. go to ragincajuns.com and click on the link to join the RCAF. Its got to start somewhere. I mohammed won't come to the mountain then bring the mountain to mohammed.

That's the point though... You have to geaux to the RCAF to give, but it should be the other way around.

Most people will not just give on there own they have to be stroked a little.

I'm pretty sure what you're describing is illegal.
