Duh! I've been begging for it...This should have been done a long time ago, but that doesn't give a pass for not trying to improve the 1/2 court offense. I say they should have thrown in a little more motion with such a guard/forward heavy team. Give me some more 1/2 court traps and pressure after made baskets too! I love the game, but have lost the passion...
We did shoot too many threes last season. Often that was because our half court offense stagnated and we ended up taking poor quality shots. An attempt to be more aggressive going to the basket is something that is needed. However to be able to do that you need to be able to go from defense to offense quickly. That can't happen if you are taking the ball out from under the basket after a score. Therefore defense and rebounding will be the keys to this "new" style. If we continue to allow the opposing guards to get into our lane as we have for the last few years little will change with our offense.
I really hope all these guys get their year back. They all bring something to the team but I especially want Gary to get his back. He's my favorite player on the team for the simple fact the he gives 150% every time he's on the floor. If he works on that jump shot (which did improve last season) he will be a really big part of this team.
In my opinion, La'Ryan Gary and Tyren Johnson are the two most versatile and valuable players on this team. Both provide a true spark because of their all-around skills and willingness to play hard on both ends of the floor.
My biggest questions: Can Daigle run the up-tempo attack effectively and become a more consistent shooter? Will Roberson and McCoy eventually shake off the rust from their games? Who will emerge as an inside option and reliable rebounder? Can Bureau and Gradnigo take that next step in their development and become consistent all-conference-caliber scoring threats? Can Dison get healthy and provide some much-needed defense and help keep opposing guards out of the paint?
La'Ryan, Randell and Brandon are all on pace to earn back that year. Definitely good news to hear.
In reality, we have 6 seniors, not 9. Dison, Daigle, and Gary have to be listed as seniors until the semester ends and they officially earn their extra year. Everyone expects that to occur. Keep this in mind everyone time you hear the 9 seniors figure quoted. That means in 2010-2011, we will have the three guys mentioned above in addition to Bureau and Gradnigo. We also will have the two freshman on this year's team, inside guy named Mitchell and guard named Andrews. They should be ready to contribute by their sophomore year. I have no idea what this season will bring. However, it is not correct to automatically assume the following year will be poor as we will have good experience returning. We don't even know who the coach will be in that season. I predict he will have more support than the one we have now has. Either this year will be successful and Coach Lee will regain confidence of the fans or someone new will be here.
