Of that list, Bowers makes the most sense. He was at USM for many years and took that program to its current level. UL is where USM was a few years ago and he knows what it takes to grow the program. I think we have the administration support, we just need a coach who can turn this around. We are oh so close, but will likely not do it under our current coaching staff. Also, Bowers recruits basically the same area as UL does, so he has a leg up on the other coaches, he has a good name and reputation, and after a year off is, hopefully, hungry to coach again. He also knows UL having played us for several years and would, IMO, make a quick impact on our program.

All of these names are moot because we can't afford a one of them. And even if we did, the commitment to athletics is not steep enough to entice those guys.. Because they, unlike us, are winners.

I don't buy that. Heck, UT-San Antonio got Larry Coker (he with National Championship ring) and they didn't even have a football team yet! I'm sure there are some guys out there that would jump at the chance to get another HC gig again; even if that meant we were just their stepping stone back to the big time.

Coker got his ego stroked.. UTSA Gave him the keys to a new program with hopes of building a program from nothing.. Not to mention plenty of backing, a great fan base, and several big money donors.. We have none of those things..
