A good coach is a good coach. A program builder is a program builder.

Bowden, Bower, Applewhite and Tuberville sure sound nice, and I would be very intrigued, but placing those names aside, you will not find a more qualified person or a better fit for the University of Louisiana than CLINT CONQUE.

Dodge was an assistant at North Texas in the early 1990s.

I think Dodge is a great example as to why most HS coaches dont work at the D1 level. That's not to say all would fail though.

I have no real opinion on Conque, but like others I would prefer someone who has had success on the D1 level. Conque comes up every time because of his connections.

I'm not into firing anyone right now. I think there's no question that Bustle will not be judged until the end of the season.

As I read these comments, I keep thinking about Northwestern and their most recent coaching changes. Last December NSU fired coach Scott Stoker after going 43-38 in seven seasons. His last season the Demons were 7-5.

So, Bradley Dale Peveto left his $200,000 assistant coaching job at LSU to go to NSU as their head coach.

Well, so far things have not exactly worked out for them...They have won ZERO games so far. Here is a quote from after they lost to McNeese a couple of weeks ago:

“We didn’t play very well,” NSU coach Bradley Dale Peveto said. “I am going to put the blame on me. I have to prepare us better.

“I’m the head football coach and it’s my responsibility. I did a horrible job.”
There is so much to consider when making administrative decisions. I'm glad all of you folks with analytical minds can do the heavy thinking about all of this stuff.
So far, the only thing that I can totally agree with is the idea that UL will need to pay a better salary to its next head coach...next year...or next decade. Heck, I wish we could pay our present coaches a nice big bonus when they become more successful.

I remember Peveto making a stupid comment that NSU would have a winning season or the season ticket holders would get their money back.

Not to say that he recruits thugs, just saying that that is the route to success in the FCS. It won't work in the FBS, especially at a school like UL with both selective admissions and a weak academic support program for athletes. _
Those are good points and somewhat valid but with that said Clint is a very good football coach. Is it possible he could be successfull in our environment? Who knows...

I know it's just a fun exercise to talk about prospective coaches... but I do not want this administration doing anything until they lay out the most aggressive high-risk platform for selection, support and absolute requirements for success for the next head coach/staff. Then and only then will we get the right person for our program.

We have got to construct a huge salary package for the HC and staff... with very abrupt performance and failure clauses (full of pain/gain sharing monetarily). This is the single most important marketing message UL has the ability to send to recruits, fans, the community and beyond. No structure or anything else will get the attention of the sports community, and no other investment will yield faster results.

A coach that signs up on a perform for pay contract... one who has the credentials and guts to succeed in our program... will take the investment risk and multiply the gains by 10. The next coaching contract and coaching selection absolutely must have that mandate. The money will not be approved through any other means but RCAF. It is time to hand the keys over to RCAF and allow them to pull in the corporate and wide spread commercial business support into UL football. No holds barred. It's past time.

HOWEVER, good luck to Coach Bustle... beat FIU... let's go bowling. Geaux Cajuns!

Agreed... A high incentive based contract which draws the attention of a young highly motivated well qualified coach that is willing to come lay it on the line knowing he must perform in order to receive the full package of goods. It is time for our RCAF money to be put to use on coaches.

This very same thing goes for basketball!

The improvements in facilities are great and are much needed but the buck starts and stops with COACHES! And staffs!

And if the current administration can't seem to pull the trigger with these decisions then they must be replaced as well.

THE expectations of some fans & THE administration need to be raised!

  8. UL Football Time For a change

This has got to be the final straw. After a great start to the season our team has come out twice with either no defense or no offense. I have never come on these boards and suggest that we need to make a change however I now believe that it is time to head in a new direction. I do not believe that we have the players to compete in the Sunbelt or at least to compete for a Title and a Bowl bid. It doesn’t seem that our coaching staff can get these players ready to win a football game anymore. Since the LSU game which I believe we did a decent job in either our offense or defense has taken the day off. We struggle to beat North Texas at home, go on the road and escape with a win to the worst team in the conference, get embarrassed by FAU for homecoming and now can’t score from the 3 yard line in the 4th quarter to put the game out of reach. I have been a long time supporter of this program not missing a home game since 1985 but it’s beginning to get harder and harder to watch our team self destruct each year. We have blown a golden opportunity to get a winning season this year. I understand that we have 4 games left to play but after listening to this game today against what is probably the third to last team in the conference (possibly 4 if we fall into that spot) I have no realistic belief that we will win 3 of our last 4 game against good sunbelt teams. I sure hope im wrong, but I think we will finish 5 and 7 this year at best with a better chance at finishing 4 and 8

Obviously nobody will get fired mid-season.

Of course it's possible that we could win 3 of our last 4!!!

    j/k it's totally impossible

No mid-season firing going to happen that is true but if Bustle isn't at least given the 3rd degree questioning after this loss then what is the true goal of our athletic department? are they content with this type of performance? If so then why isn't someone sitting them down and giving them the 3rd degree about their goals for the football team and all sports for that matter.

We will be with Buslte for one more year. There will be some excuse that if we fire him the terrorists will win. So lets all get ready for another year of the option on 3rd and 2 in OT! Feel the excitement.

IMHO anything less than 7 wins and Bustle is gone. Of course I thought there was no way Lee would be retained last year.
