I hope that's a joke. I've seen what the Orgeron can do as a head coach, and it isn't pretty. Honestly, I don't know who is worse-him or Bustle. Regardless, he's making serious jack at UT, he doesn't have to coach (just recruit) and he's not on the hot seat. He's not going anywhere.

We think that we can't draw a somewhat "big" name, but yet Terry Bowden is at North Alabama for $100K/yr. This doesn't seem to make much sense, but then again, there it is, ripe for the picking.....................

Applewhite is a stud. He brought Catholic High BR to a number 10 national ranking while he was there and he did great things with the offense at Bama in the 1 year he was there

Also interesting will be when a coaching change is made, what kind of effect the facility upgrades and current facilities will play in the hiring process. It seems like we were passed up by many coaches because this seemed like a dead end job. I think that will be a good measuring stick for the progress of the program. With the admin starting to show that they are committed to athletics and appear ready to get behind someone that can get us to the next level.

    Clint Conque?

NO, NO, a thousand times NO.

We have to make a statement. Hiring Conque [or anyone else in a similar position] makes the statement that we are cheap charlie yet again. This is not a condemnation of Conque; he may be a good coach.

Applewhite [or any other assistant at a very successful major program] ... been there with Bustle [and Baldwin, for that matter]. OK for fallback if we can't convince anyone higher on the list.

Bower? ok ... 17 straight winning seasons in D1A.. at a level similar to ours.

Either Bowden or Tuberville? better ... Instant credibility on the National level.

You think Central Michigan fans said that when they hired a little known guy by the name of Brian Kelly?

this is turnig out to be better than i expected...
    i like the suggestions of
Bryan Harsin- Boise St. off. coordinator/ qb coach
Terry Bowden- HC at University of North Alabama
-boise coach would bring an exciting offense to the swamp
-but i think bowden would bring the national attention that we need to get recruits

i still think bartel is a top pick he was the best coach we had for the past 10 years...he produced tilman, taylor, cc brown, and the only reason he left is because he realized the bs that the current staff was bringing to the program...he is getting payed more as the head coach at his alma mater Grand Prarie H.S. in Grand Prarrie, TX....look at the stats since he left in '03 or '04 we had 3 coaches at the DB position and none of them can do anything...we are at the bottom of the barrel in pass def

I don't care about Central Michigan. I care about the Cajuns; and if we want to jump-start our program, we MUST hire a recognizable name who can immediately connect with the kind of recruits in-state and out that we need to sign, and who will bring instant credibility to the program in the eyes of the fanbase and [more importantly] the money people in the area who do not currently support us with major bucks.

Agreed. I think you get a guy in here with a proven track record or a recognizable name I thin RCAF donations go up significantly before the guy even coaches game 1.

I don't care about a splash! We need to make the right choice not just a guy because he is a big name. A lot of schools have tried this named coach approach and a lot of them fail. We need to go after a guy who will put this program on the right footing. Could that guy be someone like Bower? Maybe! But could a guy whose name isn't as big do the same thing...I think so!

Without the ability to coach up what is here now, a big splash hire will only pay dividends 3 years down the road when he gets the kids that were impressed with his big name or his selling points.

When it comes time to hire a new head coach, I am in favor of getting an existing head coach who has been very successful with a smaller budget that UL currently has.
