Credentials do not mean you are good at anything, it means you stayed in school a long time. My brother has two undergraduate degrees, a masters and a phd but is still a left wing liberal nut who is corrupting our young by teaching them in a university setting.

Now me I stayed in school a long time and earned my general studies degree and am better for it. I am not corrupting anyone.

She does have outstanding academic credentials. On the surface, my first thought was, "In these budget crunch times... we're adding this kind of staff member?". Are we uniquely in need of a diversity director? Are we behind peer institutions in diversity (if it's a state/federal mandate... are others similarly staffed)? Or, are we attempting to differentiate ourselves in this respect?

I'm sure she's been told to actually study and work on making "diversity knowledge" and "diversity behavior" a priority within the institution. Could it also have a beneficial contribution to our Tier 1 pursuit? Could it have a beneficial contribution to our defense of budgets? I'm not sure if this is an indication of perhaps how liberal our university culture is... or perhaps how innovative we are. Maybe both.

Yes, in southern Louisiana they need a diversity Tsar. (sarcasm off) I love the lack of representation of a certain group cheer. How about look at the numbers of people in fields of study, then make a decision based on that. Save the money. Spend it on putting my F'ing paver down with my graduation year!

Maybe the university has bigger plans for Dr. Mallery and just wanted to get her on staff ahead of the multi million dollar budgets cuts hit a few months from now. Otherwise it's irresponsible to create a new position in this budget climate unless some other slot has already been quietly lopped off.
