Haven't been to a game yet but if he truly doesn't get it inside the 20yd line 95% of the time or more then that's pathetic

I had a kicker on my highschool team kick in the endzone every time unless onside kick was called and he kicked a few through the uprights. Is it our recruiting or do these kinds of players just lose interest in football?

In reply to Josh Parrot: All three of the high school kickers mentioned are kicking off the exact same tee heighth currently, as college. All three did extensive work kickong off the ground, during the summer. After the summer evaluations by college coaches, who are looking at all aspects of kicking and punting, including hangtimes and distances, two of the three were offered scholarships by other schools. The same three guys kicked at several different schools during the summer, and on occasion kicked at the same schools camps.

Cody Mandell (Acadiana)was offered, and verbally commmitted, as a punter at Tulane. Seth Sebastian (Lafayette High) has an offer, as a kicker, at Southeastern and is still being recruited by TCU, Central Arkansas and UL . Hunter Stover (Notre Dame) was not offered as a punter or kicker during the summer.

Evaluations of kickers is not solely based on who kicks the ball further. Distance is just part of the equation. Hangtimes are important, as an idea of how much coverage can be given on a particular punt or kickoff. Accuracy obviously plays a part on FGs.

As Cajun T said, a decision on a kicker at UL will not be made probably, till after the season, due to the lack of available spots, currently being held by the UL kickers in question.

I saw Seth Sebastian kick (Lafayette High) when they played against Teurlings. The kid made 3 mid-range field goals under adverse conditions in the same game. (wet sloppy field.)
I also saw on the tv highlights that he made a 49 field goal at NISH.

I understand that UL is looking at him, my question is, why no offer yet?

Don't waste a scholarship on a kicker when surely there is someone you can find to walk-on. Save the offers for playmakers

    Nice.

Like Momma always said, you get what you pay for.

If you have lower expectations, everyone would walk on and earn a scholly after a year. That some kids do, is inspite of the coaches, cause they wern't the ones offered scholarships to begin with.

Just like the fans who are pondering what changes are going to take place with the program, kids considering playing here, from out of the area, are condiering the status of the program too. The long line of walkons, in the current situation, are very short.

The other reality is, why would a kid, with obvious talent, consider "walking on" when he aleady knows he can play football, with a fulll ride, from a team that wants him? (scholly) The only compelling under lying current is that the player has an undeniable love for the school.

The better kickers get offers, those who walk on as kickers, usually or left overs, or as I stated above, in love with the program regardless of who is coaching.

There is no other position on the team that consistently can provide a 30 yard plus, game changing, field position changing, game winning or game losing position than a punter/kicker. THese guys do that, every time they touch the ball! No other position has that impact on a game, on a consistent basis.

Having all your eggs relying on a walk on, to fill this critical position, is weakly conceived. HAVING to do it at any position is leaving yourself open to exposure. CHOOSING to do it, is rolling the dice.

Good luck with that strategy of getting walkons, in trying to move the program forward, and reach the next level.

Walkons are a definite ingredient in any program. I have great respect for those who have chosen to walkon and continue their football careers. They have to work harder than ANYONE to make the team. That being said, they should not be relied upon as the only source, for any position.

    Hello,
I read these all the time but just registered and I thought I could offer something. I happen to know a kid who kicks and he is at UL now after transferring for personal reasons. He punts kicks and does kickoffs and is going to try to walkon this spring. He had to sit out because of transfer rules but he has informed me that he met with the coaches and perhaps this is the reason for no offer to others yet. Maybe he can walkon and help out with the kicking game and by doing so allow a scholarship to be saved for others. I'm not sure what the kid has left but he could kick with the best in the state.

Who is the prospect? Where is he from? When did he graduate from high school?

Anyone can walk on. You still have to compete to win the right to play in the game. The coaches usually play the guy who will help them win, no matter their status.

Graduated in 08. From Louisiana but I don't want to put the kid on the spot incase something should happen in which case i would look foolish as well.

So without saying the guy's name, you have created a rumor, a nameless one at that.
