obviously we're in the top 20...if our kicker only kicks it to the 25, and they return it 15 yards(not alot) they're at the 40.......bigger fish to fry? field position is huge in football

How about the fact that we were allowing the TE to return kicks on us like he was a RB.

_ Can't really compare prep to college success for kickers. The tee is different in college, as is the kickoff yard line. Those are two huge differences.

Then how does anybody evaluate and choose a decent kicker? This argument sounds ludicrous, especially coming from someone who so often makes such salient arguments. So, I must ask, what are you really getting at?

_ Because of penalties, I've seen Stover kickof from the 25 and drop it at the 2 yard line. On normal kickoffs, with a breeze, he puts it throuh the uprights. It all starts with the leg and the kid's got one. He is not even on UL's radar, maybe someone else is. I just thought that strange. _

I'm sure Mandell from Acadiana is on the radar, but I believe he is committed to Tulane at this time. I know he punts, not sure if he kicks too. I thought Stover was going to walk on at LSU too, maybe not.

We're at #38 with 20.06 yds/return but like dms said, it doesnt matter if you're #1 if the opposing team recieves from the 15 every time, they start out at the 35 on average

Hard to believe at a university this large there isn't one former soccer player that can put it past th 10 yard line consistantly. Find him (or hell her for that matter), give them a partial scholarship. Tell them they only have to practice an hour a day, and run off the damn field after they kick for all I care. Our kickoff/kickoff coverage is a major problem.

Though in the last game, we couldn't even stop them when they were pinned on their own 1.

Mandell came in on an unofficial visit to UL this past weekend. He is still committed to Tulane. Seth Sebastian is another local kid with a good leg. Stover has come in as well on an unofficial visit. Problem right now is that we have two PK's on scholarship, one is your backup punter. With Ortego being a senior next season, I could forsee signing another P/K, but someone would have to be released from scholarship. I don't see the staff making that decision during the season.
